Road Safety Around Brighton Secondary College

Dear Students, Parents and Carers,

We have observed and received some polite and constructive feedback from neighbours in Burwah Avenue and surrounding streets regarding vehicles being parked across driveways and stopping or parking in No Standing zones during student drop-off and pick-up times.

We appreciate the support of our school community in helping us be considerate neighbours and ensuring everyone remains safe while avoiding unnecessary fines.

Please note the following Victorian Road Safety Road Rules, which are enforced by Bayside City Council:

• You must not park fully or partially across any driveway, even if it is your own driveway.
• The only exception is to stop for up to two minutes solely to pick up or set down passengers, provided the driver remains with the vehicle and it is safe to do so.

• There is no minimum distance specified from a driveway. An offence occurs if any part of your vehicle is across or obstructing a driveway.

   

Residents can report vehicles obstructing their driveway to Bayside City Council's Parking Enforcement Team. An authorised parking officer may inspect the vehicle and, where appropriate, issue an infringement notice.

To assist families, the 2-minute pick-up zone on Marriage Road has recently been extended, helping to reduce congestion at peak times. There are also a number of suitable pick-up and drop-off locations along the Dendy Street perimeter, which provide a convenient alternative.
