Allyssa's Taekwondo Journey

Brighton Secondary College congratulates Allyssa Chan on her outstanding achievements in Taekwondo Poomsae and her selection to represent Australia on the international stage.

In June, Allyssa proudly wore the green and gold at three prestigious international events on the Gold Coast, competing for Australia in the Australian Open, World Taekwondo President’s Cup, and Oceania Championships. Her dedication and hard work have continued to pay off, with Allyssa earning third place among all Australian Cadet athletes during the national selection process, securing her place on the Australian Cadet Team for the 2026 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships in South Korea.

Allyssa’s journey in Taekwondo began at just six years of age. What started as self-defence training quickly developed into a passion for Poomsae. Through determination, resilience and countless hours of training, she rediscovered her love for the sport and now dedicates around 20 hours each week to training, along with intensive holiday camps, continually striving to improve her technique and performance.

Allyssa will travel to South Korea in September to compete against the world’s best young athletes. Competing at this level is an incredible honour and reflects the commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship she has shown both on and off the mat.

As Taekwondo Poomsae is largely self-funded in Australia, Allyssa and her family are responsible for covering the costs of competition fees, travel, uniforms, coaching and training.
