Italian

At the beginning of the year, each grade level was involved in our Start Up program.  What that means is we learn to set ourselves up for success by defining and simplifying classroom rules of  ‘what to do’ rather than ‘not what to do’ with outlined consequences.

Preps rules:  Come in nicely, sit on the floor, listen carefully, join in and play games fairly.

In our Italian lessons, Preps have a simple understanding of where Italy is located as we learn the language, Italian.

Students have joyfully settled into our language class routines, embracing the commencement of their learning journey and are an absolute delight to teach.

So far, Preps have  been learning how to greet others respectfully  i.e. buongiorno and buonasera - good morning  and good afternoon, made a Carnevale mask and exercised the skill of greeting others.

Preps  have increasingly been exposed to responding to simple conversational phrases i.e. Come ti chiami?  Mi chiamo ….  My name is ….and Quanti anni hai? How old are you?  Ho 6 anni. Repetition is the key.

Prep students love attempting to count to 10 with support, learning to sing a simple song, role-plays and playing games.

Grade 1 and 2 students have also spent time investing in the Start Up process, creating their own rules for each grade.

All students have been revising concepts i.e. greetings, numbers, the names of colours, shapes, days of the week, months, school items along with completing other assigned tasks, games or craft activities.

Students enjoyed making their puppet (pupazzo) to practise greetings and extending their general ability to exercise conversational language.
