Grade 1

As Term 1 draws to a close, the Grade 1 teachers would like to congratulate all students on the wonderful way they have approached their first term of learning. It has been extremely pleasing to see students growing in confidence and independence as they settle into classroom routines, engage in their learning and build positive friendships across the cohort.

A highlight of the past week was the students' visit to the school kitchen, where they enjoyed making Easter Bunny biscuits. This was a fun and memorable experience, and students loved the opportunity to take part in this special seasonal activity. We also congratulate all students who participated in the Easter Bonnet Parade and thank families for their support.

In Mathematics, students have continued to develop their understanding of numbers through hands-on learning experiences exploring addition, subtraction, counting patterns and sharing. They also enjoyed taking part in Live Mathletics for World Maths Day, which brought great excitement to classrooms across the cohort.

In English, students have been learning about recount writing, exploring the structure of recounts and creating their own pieces based on special events and personal experiences. They have taken great pride in publishing their writing and sharing their work. Our phonics program has also continued to be an important focus, with students building confidence in their knowledge of letter-sound relationships and applying these skills in both reading and writing.

Through Friendology, students have been learning about the qualities of positive friendships, including kindness, respect, honesty and inclusion. It has been wonderful to see these important social skills continue to develop throughout the term.

We thank our Grade 1 families for their ongoing support and wish everyone a safe, happy and restful Easter holiday break.

We are looking forward to a fantastic Term 2.
