We made it! What a fantastic first term we have had with all of our wonderful Prep students. They have had a positive, fun-filled start to their learning journey and have already displayed so much growth, both in and out of the classroom.

Want a glimpse into the adventures of a Prep classroom? Here’s a brief run through of what Term 1 looked like for us….

Our Numeracy lessons usually begin with a warm up game, followed by a learning task and a reflection. This term we have covered the concepts of location, 2D shapes, Days of the Week and Graphing. The fundamentals of counting, number recognition, representing numbers and sequencing are included each day through our Morning Routine activities and ‘Days of School’ maths. Our main focus for Literacy has been implementing the new Victorian government supported Phonics Plus program. It covers sound-letter relationships, spelling, morphology, handwriting and fluency. The students have embraced this daily routine and we are seeing some great results. Their confidence is improving with each lesson and we can’t wait to grow their letter-sound and word knowledge next term!

To support our students in building positive and successful relationships with their peers, we have been delivering weekly Friendology lessons. This whole-school program focuses on developing essential friendship skills that enhance social-emotional wellbeing, foster resilience, and promote healthy relationships. Through these lessons, students learn the importance of being ‘kind on purpose’, a value we proudly celebrate by awarding Friendship Ninja badges at our Prep assemblies.

Along with our core curriculum activities, Term 1 also included getting to meet our Grade 5 Buddies, Harmony Day and we even had a visit from the Easter Bunny!
