Amazing 5/6
From the Teachers
In Years 5/6, students are already halfway through Term 2 — time is flying by! Some highlights so far have included our weekly Interschool Sports matches, where our young athletes have continued to demonstrate excellent teamwork and sportsmanship, as well as our recent excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. We warmly welcome back Mr Duckett in Week 7 as he returns after welcoming another beautiful daughter into his family.
Learning Focuses
Literacy - Biographies
In Literacy, students have continued exploring biographies. They have been writing their own biographies about the sporting athletes our school houses are named after: Dylan Alcott, Ash Barty, Jessica Fox and Patty Mills. Students researched their chosen athlete and wrote engaging and informative biographies about their lives and achievements.
Over the next two weeks, students will begin researching a notable person who has made a positive contribution to the world. They will use their research to plan and write a detailed biography.
Mathematics - 3D Objects and Decimals
In Mathematics, Year 5 students have focused on decimals over the past two weeks. Students have been using decimals and place value knowledge to represent, compare and solve problems involving decimals.
Year 6 students have completed their work on decimals and have now begun exploring probability and real-life situations involving chance.
Inquiry
As part of our Inquiry unit on Animal Adaptations and Habitats, students attended an excursion to the Melbourne Zoo. Students had a wonderful time observing a wide range of animals and learning about how they move, eat and survive in their environments. Following the excursion, students selected one animal to research further and created an informative poster and presentation to share their learning. They have really enjoyed being creative this past couple of weeks.
