Terrific 2

Year 2 Newsletter

Term 2 Week 6 2026 -  Friday 29th May

What have we been up to?

We are officially more than half way through the term! We have had a busy fortnight! From visits from creepy critters, and cute furry friends, to an eye opening puppet show from Camp Quality, educating us on some experiences that children with cancer may be facing. We are heading towards swimming, and before you know it, we will be half way through the year! How time flies when you're having fun!

In Literacy, we are continuing to learn about information texts. The students have been writing information texts about different sports. Now that they are confident and have had plenty of practice creating information reports, the students have been independently drawing and writing about their sport topic. Additionally, they have all learnt how to create a slideshow on Google docs, creating their own information report slideshow. They have had so much fun exploring the Google slides, all becoming Tech Leaders, one click at a time! Next week, we will be able to use the new knowledge that we learnt from our animal incursion and the students will write their very own, independent information report, they are very excited!

In Maths, we have been learning about vertical addition and subtraction, with regrouping. We have been focussing on place value, and how you can’t have more than one digit in each place value section, hence the need to re-group. We have been using hands on manipulatives and our whiteboards to further understand this new, and rather tricky concept. The students have had such fabulous growth mindsets as they add and subtract 3-4 digit numbers! If you can continue to practise this skill at home, this will encourage further confidence moving forward, they are all superstars!

In Inquiry, we are learning about chemical science. We have been looking at the different states of matter - solid, liquid and gas. We then learnt about mixtures, and how different mixtures can change the state of matter of an object. Last week, we made jelly! We explored how the jelly crystals (solid) and the water (liquid) can mix together, and set in the fridge, creating a brand new- tasty solid!

Our year two students are really enjoying learning about chemical sciences.
