Reading

In reading, we will be exploring the texts Black Cockatoo, Dirrarn and Waves, before exploring poetry later in the term. These texts will form the base for our learning for grammar, developing vocabulary and assisting with analysing the characters from the text. We will also be exploring themes relating to Australian Indigenous cultures, colonisation, immigration and connection to culture and place.
This integrates with our Knowledge Rich Curriculum unit History:Significant Individuals and Events in Australia 1900-2000, deepening our understanding of Australia’s past through stories from the perspectives of different Australians.
We will also be developing our comprehension skills through reading non-fiction texts which provide contextual information for our novels. Inference skills will be developed through analysing the authors’ choice of language and illustrations alongside our contextual knowledge to form deep understanding.
