Wellbeing Report 

On Monday 18 May, Greensborough College proudly celebrated IDAHOBIT Day. IDAHOBIT stands for the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, which is recognised globally each year on 17 May. The day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the discrimination still experienced by LGBTQIA+ communities and to promote inclusion, respect and belonging for all. 

As part of our celebrations, the Wellbeing team and Rainbow Space Club hosted a stall at recess for students and staff to come together, connect and show their support. Members of the school community were invited to stop by for a chat, enjoy some fairy bread and collect a range of resources designed to support and educate our community. Students were able to access informative pamphlets, stickers, badges, lanyards and information about external support services available to young people. The stall created a welcoming space for conversation and reflection, while also reinforcing the importance of fostering a safe, inclusive and respectful school environment where every student feels valued and supported to thrive. 

Greensborough College's Department of Education Secondary School nurse, Jess Manzie recently facilitated a sexual consent workshop with all year 11 and 12 students. The workshop covered Victorian affirmative consent laws and focused on the FRIES acronym; that consent must be freely given, reversible at any time, informed, enthusiastic and specific. Students were given the opportunity to explore different ways to ask for consent, check in with each other and refuse consent when necessary. Some scenarios were explored where students were able to practice identifying if the interactions were consensual.  Students displayed excellent understanding and prior knowledge of the topic and participated exceptionally well in the session.
