IDAHOBIT – Rainbow Space Slays the Day

Mr Taylor Witkin

This year’s International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia was a resounding success thanks to the efforts of students and staff. Students from Rainbow Space and staff from wellbeing put together a fabulous stall in the MP breezeway where we had some discussions with members of the school community and handed out fairy bread (a huge hit).

IDAHOBIT celebrates the anniversary of the World Health Organization declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder on the 17th of May 1990. While none of our students were alive then, many parents and other members of the school community lived through this time. We have had many historic achievements since then to celebrate such as same-sex marriage being legalised.

Around the world the rights of LGBTQ people are being taken away and there have been recent spikes in hate crimes against our community. It is reassuring that the school community supports us. Thank you everyone for your continued support in making Greensborough College a safe place for everyone.

If you would like to do more to support LGBTQ people in our community speak with the Wellbeing Team, Mr Witkin, Esther MacIsaac, or Neo Stewart.
