Wilsons Prom Hike
Mr Joseph Lamb
Our Year 10 Outdoor Education students completed a 2-day, overnight hike through Wilsons Promontory National Park. The trip consisted of a 12.6km, 9.6km and a 7.6km hike over 3 days. The students were required to be fully self-sufficient, carrying their own food, tent, cooking equipment and other supplies across the entire camp. They had to show a tremendous amount of resilience while walking.
Tricky terrain, sore bodies and tired minds but they persisted through and exceeded all expectations. The rewards of a hard day of hiking were picturesque beaches and stunning hillsides. A wash off in the surf was a theme for both groups at the conclusion of each day walking. Cooking together at night and sharing a meal among the focused lights of head torches brought everyone together to laugh, joke, tell stories and clumsily eat 2 minute noodles and have everyone in great spirits.
Morning time was a groan and roll out of bed, followed by a pack up before the sun had risen. Hiking out of our respective campsites in the dark rewarded us with a spectacular sunrise. This was much needed motivation for the day ahead. Many slips and stumbles occurred throughout but no one failed to face up to the challenge. We emerged from the trees back to the bus where we had left a change of clothes, snacks and drink that couldn’t have been appreciated more. We arrived back to Greensborough College tired but full of great memories!
