Wominjeka

For thousands of years Wominjeka has been the common greeting of Welcome for the Wurundjeri Woiwurrung people, the traditional owners of the land where the city of Melbourne, and Jells Park Primary School now stand.

On an office noticeboard, visible from the foyer and front desk, is a new artwork celebrating our rich Indigenous history and culture.

This artwork features the word Wominjeka and a representation of Bunjil the Eagle. Bunjil’s feathers were decorated by many students across different year levels. Engaging the students and ensuring they were included in this process is part of making sure our school is culturally engaging.

Cultural understanding does not benefit only Koorie students, it benefits everyone.

In the true sense of being a welcoming place, JPPS would love to show off this new artwork in our front office if you are in the area!
