Visual Arts

Exciting artistic adventures are happening in the art room for Levels Foundation, 2 and 4

FOUNDATION

Foundation students have recently completed fabulous, and very cute, crocodiles. Our junior school artists worked hard to draw their crocodile and palm tree, then paint them with ink. They also used salt on top of the wet ink to add some interesting patterns to the crocodile skin.

Students learnt new skills in drawing, using space well, drawing to scale and they learnt how to use the medium of ink.

LEVEL 2

Level 2 students are working with the idea of abstract art to create an image with dots and circles. Our artists used oil pastels and quick sticks to create the coloured background, then they applied paint using unconventional tools such as cotton buds and cardboard rolls. This took lots of concentration to complete. Their main piece of artwork turned out so well that we decided to frame it using … more dots and circles!

In this piece of artwork students further built on their skills of using harmonious colours, printmaking and making decisions about presenting their artwork.

LEVEL 4

Level 4 artists have been working on drawing using one point perspective. One-point perspective is a drawing method that shows how things appear to get smaller as they get further away, converging towards a single “vanishing point”. The vanishing point for this Level 4 artwork is in the centre of the circle!

These artworks are still ‘under construction’ and students are working on ideas for frames and presentation.
