National Cross Country

On Tuesday 21 August, Maggie and I ran at the Nation School’s Cross Country Championships at Yarra Glen Race course.

We were racing against other students from around Australia.

In the race, Maggie came 7 th and she improved her time by 1 min and 48 seconds from her state run!

I was Maggie’s support runner, so I had to only run beside her or slightly behind her. I was

only allowed to cheer her on with my words and guide her where to go if needed. It was really fun and I felt really lucky to do it with her.

Maggie started off a bit slow and was coming last in the race, but she picked up her pace and overtook 5 people to finish 7th in her age group.

The other 2 states we were competing against were New South Wales and Queensland.

Maggie and her 2 other teammates received a Bronze medal for coming 3rd in the team event. She was so happy to receive a medal.

I am so happy for Maggie and proud of her for making it all the way to Nationals.

I’m also so happy that I was chosen to support her in her run.

Downball

On Tuesday the 13 of August, 50 students from levels 3-6 represented Jells Park PS in the Victorian Schools Downball competition. It was a fantastic day full of lots of fun, intense downball competition and great sportsmanship.

Here is what one of the students had to say about the day:

The day was super fun but when more squares were being used it was a little confusing. It was great playing against other schools that weren’t kids we normally play with. We got to meet a whole bunch of new people. It was a great way to test our skills and improve our strategies.

We had some high finishing teams in their respective competitions, but what was most pleasing to see was how well all Jells Park students supported each other and the great sportsmanship they showed to their opponents.

They represented the school tremendously and made the teachers who were supervising very proud.
