Marist Drama Film Festival - World Premiere

Lights, camera… action!

On Wednesday 16 September 2026, the Experimental Theatre will roll out the red carpet for the World Premiere of three original short films, created and performed by our talented Year 7 Marist Drama boys.

At 3.30pm, all students — and especially our Year 5 and Year 6 boys — are invited to an advance screening of the three films, with popcorn provided!

Then, at 5.30pm, parents of our Year 7 Marist Drama boys are warmly invited to the World Premiere, where they can sit back, enjoy the show and see the culmination of all the creativity, collaboration and hard work the boys have put into concocting their very own short films.

From 80s and 90s teen comedy, to an epic treasure hunt, to a Hitchcock-inspired mystery, there is something for everyone.

Three films. One night. One World Premiere.

The dreaded school dance has arrived, and the boys have to do the unthinkable… take a girl to the dance.

But how do you actually get a girl to go with you? Are there secret ninja techniques? Hidden tricks involving your parents at Woolies? Or maybe there’s an app that can help.

But what happens when you finally get a girl to say yes—and everything isn’t quite what it seems?

Can the boys survive the social event of the year and come out the other side with their dignity intact… and maybe even a new friend who doesn’t go to Marist?

In the spirit of Say Anything…, The Breakfast Club and the classic John Hughes teen movies of the ’80s and ’90s, the boys present…

Finding a date for the dance can be brutal.

Angus and Paddy are in a pickle… a $50 million pickle of their own making.

They may have accidentally kicked a football into a glass cabinet, which ricocheted off a spiritually significant lit candle, causing a fire, setting off the sprinklers and soaking a priceless manuscript on loan from the Louvre.

Now the school has to come up with $50 million or face being sold and turned into training grounds for an unmentionable private boys’ school… cough Terrace cough.

What are they going to do?

After a few choice words from the mysterious Groundskeeper Bobby, the boys set off on an epic quest to discover the hidden treasure of Marist.

With a nod to Goonies and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Angus and Paddy search the school with help from the lunch ladies, the librarian, the running team and the mysterious Mr Nelson, who appears to have been working at Marist since 1940.

Can the boys uncover the treasure in time, find the $50 million and save the school for Mr Newman?

They broke the school. Now they have to save it.

James is worried… extremely worried.

During a Gothic Literature class, his best mate Damien has gone missing and nobody seems to care. In fact, nobody seems to even know who Damien is.

James desperately tries to find his friend, but as the day progresses, it starts to seem that James hasn’t just lost Damien… he’s losing his mind.

In the tradition of Hitchcock and the paranoid thrillers of the ’80s and ’90s, such as Flatliners and The ’Burbs, The Boy Who Knew Too Little takes us into a world where memories can’t be trusted and nothing is quite what it seems.

Will James discover the truth…

or will the truth be the end of everything he knows?

Primary Assembly Performance

This morning, the Wind Ensemble was invited to perform at the Term 3 Primary Assembly, delighting parents, staff and students with an outstanding musical performance. 

The ensemble presented Oompa Loompa from the classic film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, showcasing their musical talent, confidence and hard work. A special thank you to Dr Jamie Kennedy for his wonderful direction of the ensemble and for his efforts in organising the performance. 

Enjoy a Weekend of Art and Music at the Tower Art Show

The annual Tower Art Show returns this weekend from 11-13 September, promising another wonderful celebration of creativity, community and culture. Alongside the stunning collection of artworks on display, visitors will be able to enjoy a fantastic entertainment program showcasing the exceptional talents of Marist College Ashgrove students and staff.

On Friday evening, the Blue and Gold String Quartet will perform a diverse selection of classical and contemporary repertoire in the Tower Courtyard. Featuring Alessander Javier, Fletcher Wessling, Ethan Wu and Loughlin Patterson, the quartet will be followed by the MCA Jazz Combo comprising Thomas Lynn, Julian Lewis, Baxter Jordan, Luke Dwyer, Harrison Hind and Max McRae, who will present a lively selection of jazz standards. Music will be performed from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

On Saturday afternoon, visitors will be treated to an outstanding performance by Marist College Ashgrove guitar tutor Matthew Teakle.

Matthew Teakle is a Brisbane-based guitarist, cellist and educator. He studied jazz guitar at the Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, graduating with First Class Honours and a University Medal. During this time, Matthew established himself as a versatile and highly regarded performer, regularly performing styles ranging from hip hop to modern classical music. He was notably a finalist with Concept Ensemble in the Queensland International Chamber Music Competition.

Since graduating, Matthew has performed extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand as a session guitarist. In December 2023, he joined the Queensland Youth Orchestra's international tour, performing in Singapore, Austria and Germany. Earlier this year, he performed at the Sydney Opera House with Tsoof Baras' new ballet Chameleon. Matthew currently holds the principal guitar chair in the Queensland Jazz Orchestra and is a prominent bandleader and sideman on the Brisbane jazz scene. He has also appeared as a featured soloist with the Queensland Wind Orchestra and on ABC Radio and 4ZZZ.

Matthew will be performing in the Tower Courtyard from 2:00pm to 5:00pm on Saturday, 12 September.

Soirée 2026

Thursday 17 September | 6:30pm | Champagnat Centre

The College community is warmly invited to attend our annual Soirée Concert, a celebration of music and a special farewell to our Year 12 musicians. Featuring performances from all College ensembles, this showcase highlights the talent and dedication of our student performers.

Food trucks will be available from 5:30pm, with food and drinks available for purchase. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased via the College Humanitix Page. We look forward to celebrating another outstanding year of music with our community.

Music Department Pool Party

Thursday 17 September | 3:15pm - 6:00pm

All co-curricular music students are invited to attend the annual Music Department Pool Party and Sausage Sizzle before Soirée. This is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate a successful year of music-making and acknowledge our Year 12 musicians.

The $10 cost includes a sausage sizzle, soft drink and lolly bag. Families are reminded to RSVP via the Parent Orbit App by Thursday 10 September. Students remaining at the College for Soirée should bring their performance uniform, music and instrument for the evening concert.
