Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol

The Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol concluded winter co-curricular sports for another year. During this week-long event, students participated in a variety of sports and intellectual activities.

 

The Senior Chess team defeated CBC 5 – 0. Well done to all team members – Alan Bahn, Nathan Sewart, Sang Le, Keyshon Dalton and Chi Tin Ngo. Blackfriars earned an early 1 – 0 lead for the Intercol Trophy.

 

 

The Middle Debating team were the affirmative team on the topic 'That the Labor Party has lost its way'. The team put forward strong arguments but unfortunately were defeated 2 – 1. Well done to Edward Glatz, Michael Ward and Nathan Sewart. Thank you to Jason Dinh for being the timekeeper during the debate. Congratulations to Michael Ward and Nathan Sewart who were awarded as best speakers by the adjudicators.

 

The Senior Debating team were the negative team on the topic ‘That there should be no limit to the right to free speech'. It was a tense debate with both sides presenting well thought out arguments, ideas and used effective points of information to pick apart CBC’s arguments. The team was composed and spoke with confidence and passion. Blackfriars defeated CBC 3 – 0. Well done to Trung Nguyen, Frank Snelling and Amir Nazari. Thank you to Jory Dunn for being the timekeeper during the debate.  Congratulations to Frank Snelling who was awarded the best speaker by the adjudicators.

 

 

The Senior A Table Tennis team were defeated 13 – 7. An excellent effort and display of sportsmanship from all team members – Isaiah Lee, Hieu Nguyen, Michael Katianos, Kerry Cao, An-Hoan Nguyen, Anthony Tran, Michael Nong and Hoa Pham. Congratulations to Isaiah Lee who was awarded the Intercol Medal.

 

 

The First XI Soccer team were defeated 2 – 3. Blackfriars were unlucky in the first half with many chances missing the back of the net. It was a tough, competitive game with both teams executing well worked attacking passages of play. Goal scorers were Ethan Lekkas and Jordan Mugford. Congratulations to Jordan Mugford who was awarded the Intercol Medal. The Intercol Trophy is now tied at 2 – 2.

 

 

The First XVIII Football team showed strong determination but were unable to overcome CBC who were the better team on the day. Blackfriars lost 11.13 (79) – 5.12 (42). Congratulations to Ben Manning who was awarded the Intercol Medal. CBC lead the Intercol Trophy 3 – 2.

 

 

The Senior A Basketball team defeated CBC 45 – 39. The team demonstrated outstanding determination, teamwork and persistence throughout the game. Congratulations to Jackson Smith who was awarded the Intercol Medal.

Blackfriars drew with CBC 3 – 3. CBC retain the Intercol Trophy.

The Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol is major event that all students look forward to and remember. All teams demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and discipline on and off the field, played competitively and showed respect to opposition players, coaches, officials and spectators. Thank you to all those involved in making the 2019 Blackfriars vs CBC Intercol a huge success!
