Primary Co-Curricular Report
Primary Co-Curricular Report
Intercol brought an end of the winter season for football and soccer. The traditional end of season games versus CBC are always highly anticipated and were once again hotly contested.
Football
The Year 6/7 game was unfortunately abandoned at three quarter time as an ambulance was called after a head knock. Blackfriars was in front by two goals when the game was abandoned. The team was playing some terrific team football and making a contest at every opportunity. The boys finished the season strongly with a win against Cardijn in the second-last game and then putting in a good performance against CBC in the intercol.
The Year 3/4/5 team was dominant in their match against CBC. The boys won by 88 points and were terrific right across the ground. Blackfriars were relentless around the contest and put CBC under a lot of pressure when they had the ball. It was terrific to finish a strong season on a high and to win the final game.
Soccer
The Year 6/7A team started slowly against CBC and found themselves chasing the game after conceding the first few goals of the game. The boys fought hard but couldn’t bridge the gap conceded in the first half.
The Year 6/7B team got off to a good start and was leading by two goals until late in the game. Unfortunately, CBC scored a few goals in the last few minutes to equalise and force a draw.
The Year 3/4/5 teams finished the season on a high with 9-1 wins in both games. This playing group has had a very successful season, winning more games than they lost. What was most pleasing about this group was the fact that each week the team was a mix of students from Year 3-5 that competed against schools which entered straight Year 5 teams.
Intercol Medallists
At the conclusion of each Intercol fixture, medals are awarded to one player from each team for their performance and conduct during the game. The boys that win these medals demonstrate an exemplary attitude and commitment as well as a high degree of skill. Players are selected by the opposition school.
Congratulations to the 2019 Intercol medallists:
Year 6/7 Football – Lucas Diorio
Year 3/4/5 Football – Kristian D’Angelo
Year 6/7 A Soccer - Isaac Matikulas
Year 6/7B Soccer – Elijah Thiik-Brown
Year 3/4/5 Soccer – Andrea Pannuccio
Basketball
The Black team was easily beaten by Walkerville 4-39 whilst the Blue team had a narrow win over the Mars Bars 16-9. With three games left until finals, the boys have a chance to move themselves up the ladder with some solid performances in the coming weeks.
The Year 4/5 team lost a hard fought game against Nailsworth 14-22. By taking more care of the ball when in possession it would create more scoring opportunities for this enthusiastic bunch. Work rate and endeavour has been excellent. The team just needs to add a little polish to their finishing.
Coaches & Managers
There are a significant number of coaches and managers that have been involved in the Co-Curricular program this term. Without their generosity and community spirit, the school could not enter teams into S.A.A.S competitions. I’m sure you would agree that our coaches and managers do a terrific job and are terrific role models for your boys.
