Welcome back to the John Cain Library

 

We are looking forward to seeing students from years 7-10 back in the library this week. Our library hours havenot changed, we open at 8.15 and close at 4 pm. We are also open at recess and only closed for 15 minutes at the start of lunch time.

 

To ensure that students and staff are able to safely use the space, we have changed some processes and procedures. Please ensure that these guidelines are followed at all times to protect everyone.

 

  • The number of students allowed in the library space at any time has been reduced to 100 to meet the social distancing requirements.
  • All returned books now go through the return book chute in the library foyer where they will be quarantined for 72 hours, cleaned and then shelved.
  • Use hand sanitiser when you arrive and when you leave the Library
  • All students must sign in at the door – please try and use your own pen 
  • Place any used tissues or wipes in the bins provided
  • Maximum of 4 students per table, no sitting on the floor
  • Do not move chairs or furniture – they have been spaced to meet social distancing guidelines
  • Please follow social distancing rules – stay 2 large steps away from other students
  • When browsing books on the shelf, please DO NOT put the book back on the shelf. Place it on the library trolley for library staff
  • No food in the library
  • When queuing at the Library desk or photocopier, ensure that you are following social distancing – floor markers
  • The Web Catalogue is closed - see Library staff for assistance
  • Games cupboard is closed
  • We do not have networked PCs available for student use.

 

 

Using the Photocopier, staplers, scissors and guillotine – please ensure you adhere to social distancing   

  • Clean the photocopier panels after use with the antibacterial wipes provided.
  • Clean any staplers, scissors, or the guillotine slider with the antibacterial wipes after you have used them
  • Use hand sanitiser which is available on the hygiene station and at the library desk

 

Extended Loans

In late April the library extended all resources loans until the 18 August 2020, this was to ensure there were no overdue notices issued over the lock down period.  If students have finished with their books, they can return them anytime when the return on site. 

 

 

Make and Take Mondays are back with a twist!

 

Monday craft activities are back in the library starting on Monday 15 June.

 

For the rest of term 2 and all of term 3 craft kits will be individually packaged and given to participants on Mondays at lunchtime.  Students are welcome to work on the activity in the library then pack up their kit making sure they taking all the components home in the bag provided.  There will be no sharing or reusing the resources.

 

Our first activity on 15 June will be mindfulness colouring to help students relax and ease back into school life.  Pencils and mindfulness designs will be provided.  

 

 

Darebin Mayor's Writing Awards

 

The Darebin Mayor's Writing Award is a new initiative to celebrate and share the creative writing of young people living and studying in the City of Darebin. Following on from the success of the much-loved Mayor's Writing Awards (Adult) Darebin are pleased to announce a series of awards for primary and secondary school aged writers. 

 

 

 

Please submit entries via their webpage and a simple online form. Don’t forget to add all contact details. 

The awards are for all types of writing including poetry, short story, fiction, fantasy, Sci-Fi.

1200 word limit. One entry per person. For more information see the attached flyer.
