Endeavour House News

Term Three

Another busy term is flying by! Winter sport has again kept the Endeavour House girls active and on the go. The weather seems to be starting to warm up and the girls are heading outside after school more, which we encourage. Last weekend, however, we had a wet and windy Saturday and the Endeavour House girls made the most of the opportunity to get out in the puddles and splash around. You will see from the photos that our girls are not short of ideas to amuse themselves.

Birthdays, Birthdays, Birthdays!

Happy Birthday to Chenae Wreford and Caris Rae who celebrated their birthdays in the holidays. Macie McLeod celebrated her birthday at the end of July and went home for the weekend. Tasharnie Dempsey started our many August birthdays. She is from Halls Creek and it was her first birthday away from family. She managed it in her usual quiet manner. India King and Lahnee Reid-Harries were next, with a weekend of celebration with their families.  Rosie Page and Eliza Sprigg celebrated their birthday on 16 August and Dannielle Frost on 22 August. We have another two birthdays still to come in August. Happy Birthday to our July and August birthday girls.

Breaksea House: Year Nine Girls

As you may know, we have Lahnee Reid-Harries, Elisa Crook and Zaydee Kiagoes living in Breaksea House and having having their dinner and prep time in Endeavour House. Lahnee and Zaydee seem to have settled in well to boarding life and Elisa has been an amazing support to them. We are enjoying spending time with them when they are here.

Gap Assistant

We welcome Miss Ana Burmudez from Colombia as our Gap Assistant for the next twelve months. Ana enjoys drama and working with children of all ages. Although she only arrived in Week Four, she is already making a big impact. She hopes to study Early Childhood Education in the future.

In my opinion, the best thing about having a Gap Assistant living in the house is the ‘big sister' feel, and the girls are developing that with Miss Bermudez. It is crucial for the girls to have someone they can go to when they want to talk. The fabulous Miss Miller will still be living in Endeavour House and on duty on weekend shift, so we are lucky to have double the Gappy love.

Debating

A number of boarders have been travelling to North Albany Senior High School to compete against other schools in debating this year. On Wednesday 21 August, the grand final was held and we congratulate our boarders, Dannielle Frost and Chelsea Evans for achieving the runner-up medal.  Well done, girls!

Year Nine Afternoon Tea

Last Tuesday, the Year Nine girls, Miss Miller and Mrs Goggins went on a trip to Emu Point. We went to the Emu Point Café, had a bite to eat and a drink, and chatted about the term. We continued on for a walk up on the bridge, saw a whale, took some photos and then headed back to boarding in time for dinner. Thank you to Miss Miller and Mrs Goggins for taking us on this great afternoon out. A Year Eight outing is being planned for when Winter sport is finished.

Leader's Report

In Endeavour House on 11 September we organised a great fundraiser for the local Proudie’s Foundation. We watched the Eagles vs Crows play football and had smoothies, popcorn and a fruit platter. We had two competitions, one for tipping and one for best-dressed. Our very own Jasmine Bradshaw won the tipping and we had a draw for the best-dressed between Georgia Patterson and Amber Pearce.

Guest Speaker

On Tuesday 13 August we had a dietician join all of the girls for dinner and a talk about the importance of maintaining a healthy, balanced diet. Ms Donna Williamson's  visit was a good experience for us all, making us realise that your diet has more of an impact than you think. I’m glad she spoke to all the girls on campus.
