Commitment to Self-Improvement

The boys of Anchorage House are a terrific group of young men and I have seen them shine this week, however, I have also had to counsel a few about some poor choices. This is all part of growing up and the House has united in response.  I am proud of how each boy has grown and shared their commitment to self-improvement with myself and each other.

Boarding's Got Talent

Our win at the Boarding's Got Talent was fantastic. Every boy on that stage put in their best effort. To look at the performance, you might have thought we had rehearsed that act for a week, however, while we had many meetings, we only had two rehearsals. The process towards developing an act which everyone contributed to and which had universal acceptance was a long one.  We even elected a BGT committee to oversee the production and, with the help of Mr Tomlinson, Mrs Goggins, Mr Rice and all the boys, the final result was full of fun and a demonstration of great team effort. The boys clicked into gear on the day and there wasn’t one grumble or negative comment as they set about fine-tuning their role in the act.  Well done, boys. You made us proud.

Academics

The boarders have been studying very well recently. Anchorage House boys settled quickly into their reading and worked on their homework efficiently, using each other and the tutors for support. Three boys received academic awards.  Well done to Toby Brown, Harrison Dolan and  Fletcher Cugley.

Dinner Guests

This week, two senior boys joined us from Eclipse House for our weekly in-house dinner.  Thanks to Flynn Cristinelli, Eclipse Pastoral Leader, for organising the visit.  Hamish Medway welcomed Levi Cosh and Austin Cook to our table. The Anchorage House boys are very welcoming in these circumstances and went out of their way to make them feel at home. Next week we will welcome two new members of Eclipse House. We are also looking to return the gesture as some Year Nine boys go to Eclipse House to share a meal with the big boys.

Gap Assistant Interview: Sam Tomlinson

Q: Where are you from in England?

A: I am from the east in a small town called Aylsham.

Q: Why did you choose to come to a place so far away from home?

A: I wanted to go away from home to see the other side of the world. I had heard so many great things about Australia that I thought I would come and see it for myself.

Q: Do you like it here?

A: So far, so great. The beaches are all so nice, the school is amazing, the kids are all great. It's perfect.

Q: Were you a boarder?

A: I was a boarder in my last two schools.

Q: What were your fondest memories of boarding?

A: Being with my friends the whole time, having all the fun we could have. There are so many things you can do, so many options open to you.

Q:What are you first impressions of the boarding house?

A: It's great, very lively, very loud, and playful the whole time.

Leaders' Report

On Sunday 18 August we held Boarding's Got Talent. It was a great night, with everyone showing off their great dance moves. Thank you to Mr Goggins, Mrs Goggins and Mr Tomlinson on helping us get a fabulous win.

So far this term, everyone has had great fun doing the recreation activities, such as watching movies on weekends, roller-skating, golf, going to the Snake Run and doing MacDonald's runs with our fabulous supervisors. We all look forward to more recreation activities that are just as fun.

I hope everyone has a fun, safe and enjoyable long weekend with your family and friends.

Special Dinner

On Thursday 15 August, all of the boarding boys attended an all-boys' dinner. Mrs Donna Williamson came to speak to us about healthy dietary choices. She said that we should eat more coloured fruit and vegetables, and not as much processed food. She also said that the more numbers on a packet (of processed food) the worse it is for your body. When in doubt, it is best to eat unprocessed wholesome foods. It was very good to have a boys' dinner and very interesting listening to Mrs Williamson. Thank you to Chef Harvey for a nourishing meal.
