Congratulations to Kara Miwa-Dale and Holly Sutherland, our two Languages Student Leaders for 2021. 

In this first edition of the College Newsletter, they have written to introduce themselves and to share their ideas and plans for activities in the Languages learning area this year.

"Konnichiwa'" I’m Kara, and I’m one of your Languages Leaders for 2021! Holly and I are looking forward to planning some exciting events for our Languages program and to help you all in your studies, whether you are studying Japanese, Italian or French. 

As my mother is Japanese, I have had the incredible opportunity of travelling regularly to Japan to immerse myself in the unique culture and visit lots of amazing places. Therefore, as a Languages Leader I would love to encourage more people to learn the language and discover more about the culture. 

After having spent a lot of time remote learning last year, it will be great to get lots of people involved in Languages activities at school this year. One of our plans for this year is to revamp the Languages Club, where students will be able to practise their speaking skills, ask for advice or help with assignments, and of course, participate in fun cultural activities and games! 

Languages Week and the upcoming Education Perfect Languages championships (16 to 23 March) will also provide additional fantastic opportunities to get involved. 

As Languages Leaders, we would love to hear your ideas and any suggestions you may have for the year ahead. We are looking forward to 2021 and hope to see many of you getting involved! Stay tuned and check out the daily notices on SIMON for upcoming Languages events.

"Ciao" to all students, parents and carers in the Kilbreda College community! My name is Holly, and I, alongside my fellow leader Kara, will be representing the Languages learning area for the College as a member of the Class of 2021.

I am personally studying Italian at the College and in 2019, I was lucky enoughto be a part of the Italian Study Tour alongside nine of my classmates. This immersion into Italian culture really broadened my perspective on the world and is one of the many reasons I am continuing to study Italian at Year 12. 

I hope that with Kara, we can represent Languages in the way that we love, and I encourage everyone to love languages like us. I look forward to working with many students of the three languages offered at Kilbreda, during my year as Languages Student Leader.
