Year 8

While our Year 8 students have been replaced as the 'new kids on the block' it is easy to forget how little time the girls spent here at the College last year. We were reminded last week when the most common question asked was ‘Where is Room …?’ Despite the challenges, the girls have made an excellent start to the year with lots of positivity and smiling faces and they need to be congratulated for their punctuality, attendance and pride in wearing the school uniform correctly.

Assistant Principal: Staff, Tanya Kolb, spoke to the students on the first day about finding their passion and following it. She challenged the students to bring the best version of themselves to everything they do and if they do this then they can be safe in the knowledge that they are enough.

The theme for this year is 'Wonder: Celebrating all that is good with joy and gratitude'. The girls have been asked to think about and celebrate the small achievements that are often overlooked but which are essential because they make up such a large part of our lives. While significant events often occur sporadically, the small events happen more frequently and when you fail to celebrate these, you miss out on enjoying a considerable part of your life.

This year will provide many exciting opportunities for the Year 8 students with activities including the sustainable Foreshore program, House and Interschool sport, the production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical and the Adventure Camp (Term 3) at Valley Homestead, among other things.

The dedicated and professional Year 8 Homeroom teachers are the closest supporters of the wellbeing of our Year 8 students and I thank them for the support they have provided to the students as well as myself in these first few weeks. They are:

8/45    Wayne Murrill

8/47    Cate Jacka

8/48    Adrienne Donoghue

8/49    Louisa Tanner and Yvonne Langford

8/51    Sean Wogan

8/52    Keryn Holden

My wish for the girls this year is that they embrace college life and open themselves up to the many opportunities that they are presented with this year. Whether it be new friendships, sports, subjects or experiences – be brave, jump in and have a go!
