State Squash Champions

After a long bus ride through the early morning traffic to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC), our three Junior Squash teams were quickly on the courts to practise. Once the other competing schools of McKinnon, Lakes Entrance, Gladstone Park and Balwyn had arrived the competition started.

There was fierce competition from all schools, checking the rules when unsure and displaying excellent sportspersonship throughout the whole day’s play. As each school’s teams competed the potential winners where making their way up the ladder. By lunchtime it was clear who the teams to beat were. For the boys it was McKinnon but for the girls it was Koonung.

The boys team ended the day with a play-off for 5th and 6th placing. The Koonung girl’s teams ended up playing against each for the State Champions and Runners-up positions. They were exciting matches with all teams giving their best effort.

The final results were: the boys team of Lachlan Tolliday, Ronak Sen and Dhruv Mehta coming 6th in the State, and the girl’s team of Keira Singleton, Sienna Telford, Chloe Popplewell and Catherine Jeong becoming State Champions and the girl’s team of Holly Macfarlane, Taneka Huber and Lola Dobie as State Runners-up.

It was a delight to take the teams to MSAC for an enjoyable day of State Squash. Congratulations to all our players. You can all be very proud of your achievements.
