Year 3 News

In Term Two, both Year 3 classes had the opportunity to take part in Farm to Table. The students picked vegetables from the school garden and were all involved in making a wonderful meal for their parents/carers.

3 RB Elpida

Finally the special day was here for 3RB to go to Farm to Table. It all started in the library when Mrs Frau told us we were going to make gozlemes. There were two groups which were the gozlemes group and the dessert group. I was in the gozleme group. Gozlemes are Turkish pastries filled with meat or cheese and spinach.

Then we were ready to go out into the garden. We picked silverbeet, spinach, pomegranate and lemon myrtle. We used lemon myrtle to make cordial.                                                                                                                   We went back inside and started on the gozlemes, while the dessert group started making custard tarts with custard and pomegranate seeds. When the gozlemes were cooking 3RB went to class so one of the students could practice saying a prayer for when the parents came.                                                       When we returned back to the library, we saw lots of parents waiting to have lunch with the students. I saw my dad so I took him to sit down at one of the tables while my mum was cooking. Finally, it was time to eat. Me and dad ate a meat gozleme and mum ate a vegetarian gosleme with spinach and feta cheese. After that it was time to eat the custard tarts with pomegranate seeds.

Once everyone finished eating, it was time to do the dishes.Everyone lined up and grabbed a wet sponge to wash the dishes. Then we all went to put them on the drying rack to dry. Once that was finished it was time to go back to class. We had a GREAT day!

3RB Emily

We were all so excited for the day had come , everyone walked happily through the door with excitement.

Afterwards we got put into 2 groups, one for gozlemes (the main course) and one for custard tarts (dessert).  Then we went out into the garden to pick lemon myrtle , spinach, silverbeet and mint. I enjoyed picking the lemon myrtle because it smelt delicious.

We then went back inside and started to prepare the food. I got to be in the gozlemes group which is a Turkish food that can have meat or spinach in it. I loved rolling the gozleme dough and filling it with the cheese and spinach filling. It was also fun when we made the mixture.

Afterwards, we went back to the classroom and did some work . We went  back to the kitchen area 30 minutes later. We got to choose where we wanted to sit, I sat next to Ryan , Hazel and my mum.

We first ate the gozlemes and it was sooo good. I loved it so much!  Then we ate the custard tart made with pastry, custard, a drop of cream and some pomegranate seeds on top.

Then we washed the dishes and I got to go home early. What a FANTASTIC day!!!

3RB Henry

The moment 3RB had been waiting for had finally come. It was time for Farm to Table!!! We got put into 2 groups. Lucas was the leader of desserts and Jarryd led the main course. Soon we went outside. We picked all the vegetables, we got to smell lemon myrtle and we put it into our cordial.

I was in the dessert group  making custard tarts and the other group was making gozleme, a Turkish stuffed turnover. The ingredients for the tarts were pomegranate seeds, custard and pastry cut simply with a cookie cutter. You’d think It was so hard!!! But in the end it paid off.

Next, we set up the tables and cutlery for the parents. Soon they came ready to eat our delicious lunch. My dad and grandfather came. I was placed on a table with them and my friends Theo and Mason. We had some fun serving our families the gozlemes and the custard. My dad thought lunch was amazing. He ate everything and loved it!

After we finished our lunch, it was time to wash the piles of dishes. It was a bit boring but it had to be done.

It was a fantastic day and the food was SCRUMPTIOUS!

I had a good time with my mum at farm to table and we got to take a leaf that we had to fold them in half and then smell them.We had to go in the garden to get some ingredients for the food and the desert and then we ate with the mums or dads that came to farm to table.I sat with my mum and with my best friends and Lennys mum and dad came too.I had a great time at farm to table but there was one thing at farm to table that felt like we had to do it for our mums and dads we had to wash the dishes that felt like a chore at home that we had to do!!
