Careers Remote - still going strong

Welcome to Term Two from my ‘virtual’ home careers office!!  With the strange end to Term One, and all the challenges that COVID-19 has thrown at us, I think that students are doing exceptionally well.  It was great to hear from quite a few of you over the ‘break’, which showed that many students are managing to maintain focus and look ahead to how they continue to grow, learn and prepare for the exciting future ahead.

Appointments for e-counselling have been opened for Term Two.  I will be using the Webex platform for these sessions, which can be booked via the usual means on myNorthcoteHigh>Careers

Students who are not comfortable being a part of an e-counselling session online can email me with questions at burgess.karen.a@edumail.vic.gov.au

Well done over 200 of our Year 9 students who completed their Morrisby@Home online profiling over the break.  It was terrific to have such a wonderful response, and important given the value of this program.  We are now busy working with the CEAV to arrange e-counselling sessions for all participants.  Stay tuned and keep an eye on your emails and Connect page as we work our way through this process.

Commiserations and congratulations also to all our Year 10 students who worked so hard over the past few months to arrange their work experience placements, only to have the program cancelled for 2020.  I have been really impressed with the capacity of the cohort to respond to the ‘moving goalposts’ and employers have been impressed with the communication from students.  Much of the learning around work experience is actually in the managing the process of finding a placement.  This is probably little comfort, but I still hope that students have found some value in using all their resources to identify opportunities and secure a placement.  Thank you for your understanding.
