Library online

Supporting remote learning

The John Cain Library team has developed a number of library resources to support students, families and staff while working and studying remotely. The school community can access these resources online through the John Cain Library webpage or MyNorthcoteHigh.

The Student Research Skills page provides research help for all year levels. This guide contains information and links to websites which will assist you to:

  • Find information using databases and the web
  • Select and assess quality and reputable information
  • Acknowledge your sources to ensure you avoid plagiarism and follow copyright rules
  • Reference sources using APA or Harvard

We encourage you to explore the Database and Digital Resources on the library’s web page and utilize the various databases which include;

  • ANZ News stream  - a full text online newspaper database
  • Wheelers eBooks and audiobooks – fiction
  • Clickview – video streaming platform for films and documentaries.

The Library page can also be accessed via the Compass star menu.

If you have a problem accessing information or require assistance you can use the Ask a Librarian Email Service on the John Cain Library webpage.

The Library team is pleased to introduce this new initiative and encourages students and staff to email questions to the library staff.

Real-time help is available during school term hours Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4pm. If your request is made when we are closed, we will respond on the next school day. The email address is library@nhs.vic.edu.au and please use your NHS email when using this service.

Student library book loans extended

All library books borrowed prior to the school holidays have now been renewed until the 17th August 2020, so students will not receive overdue notices in term 2.   Students are also able to sign in and check their library record on the John Cain Library web page using SSO with your Compass username and password.
