Year 9 Aboriginal Art Workshops

On Thursday 4th March, Year 9 students studying Visual Arts this semester participated in an Aboriginal Art incursion ran by the Wanyara group. Students were taught about Aboriginal Art symbolism, Aboriginal culture in the modern world, and the significance of Aboriginal art in Australian culture. Facilitator Peter Wood assisted students in their understanding of Aboriginal culture and art, and ran students through a practical workshop where they developed a symbolic artwork of their own.

The session enabled students to connect the incursion content with what they are currently learning in Visual Arts about Aboriginal Art, and what they will begin to learn in Humanities about Colonisation. Artworks created by students will be displayed in the 2021 Art and Design exhibition at the end of the year for parents, students and the wider school community to see.
