Shadow Minister Andrew Giles MP visiting our Music Faculty

On Tuesday, 2nd March, we had the pleasure of welcoming the Shadow Minister, Andrew Giles MP to visit the Music Faculty celebrating the success of the development of a “Jam Hub”. In late 2019 an application was made to the LOCAL SCHOOLS COMMUNITY FUND” by Music Coordinator Ross Talarico to obtain a grant to develop and refurbish one of the music rooms.  The works undertaken included new carpet, electrical upgrades, the building of a stage, stage curtains and sound equipment including a digital mixing desk and accessories.

The aim of the project was to reinvigorate aspiring musicians and give them a performance space that meets the demands of the current music industry.  Playing on a professionally equipped stage helps develop confidence and a deeper appreciation of stagecraft as well as developing performance skills.

It was an honour to have received a visit from Andrew Giles. We sincerely thank him and the committee involved for considering our school application.  There was no doubt he was quite impressed with the upgrade and ecstatic that such a fund had improved the learning environment for our aspiring musicians.

For any student who would like to see the “Jam Hub” in action, the room is open every Thursday at lunch during our band rehearsals for you to sit down and enjoy while rehearsals are taking place.
