Senior School

It has been a very positive start to the year. Our VCE and VCAL students have settled in very well. Our student leaders have already begun to show their leadership traits by voicing their ideas and also initiating action in the areas that they are leading.

Our VCE students have comfortably transitioned into the new building and this is evident in how they are utilizing their study sessions, by collaborating as well as quiet studying, and more likely to spend their period 4 study sessions at school rather than leave to study at home.

Year 12 Parent Information Session

I would like to thank all parents, carers and guardians of our year 12 students who attended our year 12 VCE Parent Information Session last Wednesday. The evening was a huge success. We began with a meet and greet BBQ and then moved into the new building for the session. The session informed parents about the Year 12 VCE programs as well as VCAA policies that they also need to be aware of. We also appreciate that this year is also challenging for parents and carers, so the year level coordinators Jess Spiteri and Michael Rogneda delivered some supportive strategies to ensure that there is a healthy balance of their child’s wellbeing as well as academically striving to do their best.

Thank you to our school leaders who were also present and helped with the cooking of the BBQ and welcoming our community into the new building.

Our Senior School Supportive Programs

It is very encouraging to see so many of our students attending Study Halls so far this year. Study Halls are sessions to support their revision prior to their SACS. These are held by their subject teachers during lunch, before or after school.

Additionally, we have our VCE Maths and English Coaching available for all our VCE students. This is to support every VCE student to further extend themselves in these subjects. The VCE coaches are our experienced Maths and English teachers. We also have our tutoring program available to all students which is yet another opportunity to support our students in their literacy and numeracy.

This month we have also had incursions for our Year 10 and Year 11 cohorts that were facilitated by Elevate Education. These sessions are designed to support students in developing a growth mindset, setting goals and reinforcing effective time management and study strategies. The response from students was extremely positive and we encourage them to implement these strategies in their approach to their studies.

Our VCE Teachers are also “Striving for Excellence”

Last week our VCE teachers and leaders collaborated to reflect on our VASS data (past year 12 data) to inform and support them to further refine their teaching and learning in VCE. We also had a consultant who worked with our Maths and English leaders to analyse the longitudinal data. The actions include strategic planning in years 7-10 to ensure that the essential skills and knowledge are sequenced in our curriculum as well as short term planning on what the year 12 teachers will do different this year for further impact.
