Scienceworks Excursion

It started when we arrived at school on a Monday morning and we were having our morning circle. It was time for announcements and Mr Brad announced that we were going for an excursion to Science Works.

All us kids forgot about it so it was pretty funny, we headed down into the buses and drove off. When we arrived we met Mr Jake there and we went down stairs into a room. We went outside to have some recess while we waited and we played on the playground and kicked the footy.

After that we went inside and put our bags away and went upstairs. We split up into three different groups Mr Jake's group, Mr Brad's group and Mr Michael's group and went to different projects.

My group with Mr Brad started off in the technology area. You could build your own house, you could pick up rubbish and put it in the bin on a screen and if you moved your hand above this screen you could draw. Next we went to think ahead and we built our own future cars, destroyed gems on a virtual screen then we walked to sportsworks and met up together.

We all had a go at racing Cathy Freeman, one of my idols, did flexibility tests, had a race in a wheelchair and did some sports like netball and baseball. We then went upstairs and hung up there for a while, there were mirrors in a small maze, there were cool chairs with lights and these weird nets with the galaxy on them.

After that we waited to go into the Planetarium because they had to clean it up, The staff opened the doors and we walked inside to see a big screen on the ceiling. We layed back on chairs while we looked up and learnt about space for about forty minutes. One cool but also scary thing that I learnt was that in 4 billion years the sun will absorb the planets then it will explode.

After it finished the man told us a few other things then we left. We grabbed our bags, went back to the bus and drove to a park. We had our lunch in the park

and we walked on the jetty, played on the playground, chased birds and tried to scare Mr Michael and Brad.

After a while we then got back into the buses and headed back to Lockington because it was the end of our trip.

Ice skating, Shopping trip

My favourite part of Term 2 was when we went ice skating at O’Brien Ice House because we enjoyed learning how to skate with skating frames. And after that we were skating on our own, but we were still falling down a little bit because we tried to turn but we spun around in circles.

When we were finish skating we went to have lunch across the road from there and the shop was a bit like McDonald but it was called Carl’s jr and the food there was delicious. We could get a refill for the drinks, so when we finished we went and got refill and after that we went shopping at a place called Spencer Street Outlet Centre. When we were there we planned to get back together at the front so we could catch the train back to Richmond station and walk back up to Lockington.

When we were shopping we all liked Jay Jays, Converse shops and the AFL shop because

it had lots of cool clothes and shoes. When we were ready to set off we waited for each other to get together and walked to the train station to go back to Richmond station.

When we got off the Richmond station we walked back to Lockington and enjoyed our new converse shoes.

Footy at Richmond Junior Football Club

Hi, so I’m playing football for RJFC (Richmond Junior Footy Club). I remember coming to training not knowing how to tackle without being called out. Luckily I have two amazing coaches, Esta and Mia.

Training goes from 4:00 to 5:30 and in that time I learned so much. I was so amazed to

even play for the team. The first Sunday came along and I knew it was all nerves. I didn’t want to play.

Tenielle, Katelyn and I got there early and decided to do some stretches. The game started and the nerves hit. I got good points and tackles. We lost but we tried. More training until it was our next game.

The next game I got a goal. I decided that footy might be my passion for a little bit. I am never going to give up on footy because footy is my sport now. Thank you.

Swinburne Adventure

On our first week back on Friday us MITS kids went on an adventure on the trains to Swinburne University. The first thing we did was have a feed and then it was a Welcome to Country from the Traditional Owners (Wurundjeri People).

Then we went straight off with Sam, China and Lidia who are some of the Swinburne staff that help us kids to start with the stop motion film, which will have a meaning of one of our values; Respect, Care, Courage and Culture.

This is the 3rd film from the MITS kids, the first one made in 2018, next one was made in 2019 and sadly missed 2020 due to covid, and now 2021. The last film's themes were “Planet MITS” and “Journey to MITS”.

Right now we have split into four groups, each group has one value. The groups brainstormed stuff such as the music in the background, the characters and things we would need in the stop motion film and made ideas of how and what their film would look like. We work on the film every Friday, then when we finish them we send it out to the MITS community.

I can't wait to see the final product of everyone's film.

NAPLAN

Last week all Year 3, 5, 7 and 9's did NAPLAN all around Australia. NAPLAN was pretty fun for some of us because it was quiet and we also got to have a week off homework.

NAPLAN was worth doing because we all learnt new stuff there and got to show our amazing skills that we have been learning in the past few weeks. Thank god that we have finished NAPLAN now and we don’t need to do it for another 2 more years.

NAPLAN was a lot harder than we thought. We thought that we had to answer all kinds of questions and all other stuff like that but we had to write our own stories, read through a lot of stuff and do all that hard work.

Everyday we all had to come in, get our laptops, get organized and sit down and wait for all the other students to get ready. In NAPLAN we had to do writing, reading, spelling and some maths, it wasn’t that fun doing it, it was kinda boring but we got through it!

Escape Room

For a weekend activity us girls got to choose what we wanted to do so we all decided on a scary escape room. When we thought of a scary escape room we prepared ourselves for a really frightening, scary, funny teamwork activity.

Let's just say it wasn’t what we thought, it wasn’t even scary but when we scared each other it was funny. It wasn’t what we expected but we still had so much fun working together as a team to get out of the room.

At the start when we went into the room it looked sketchy and scary but when we were looking for clues we began to get used to it and we were able to turn on a lamp. The best part of our experience was having to work together to unlock locks, find clues and work together.

In the first room we unlocked a little box that had a photo, then Katelyn had the amazing idea of copying the photo in the same spot. Nothing was working but our volunteer had the brilliant idea to push the book back and that unlocked the sensor lock under the desk.

If you have the chance to do an escape room with your friends or class you should do it because it’s a great chance for you and whoever you go with to work together as a team.

After that us girls had the best lunch anyone could think of. We had scotch fillet steak sandwiches and we got to add whatever we wanted on it.

Phillip Island Excursion

Early one Tuesday morning all of the MITS mob woke up excited to go to Phillip Island to ride the Go Karts and drift around and see really expensive cars.

We looked at some really expensive cars like McLaren, Lamborghini, Ferrari and Maserati. We sat in some cars for a while and had a look around. Malakai, Tenielle and Waylon went to go and drift around in cars first because they weren't allowed to ride the Go Kart because they were under 12. Then the rest of us kids went over to drift around. I went in a Mustang and Zayne went in a Maserati. The road was wet so more wet means more fun.

After we sat around for thirty minutes we decided to head over and sign in so we could ride the go karts. About 20 minutes later we got our helmets and stuff so we could ride them. As we all took off Zayne and I rode around the track together I went around a sharp corner and almost went off the track, while Zayne kept on driving Luke was behind, so Zayne waited for Luke to catch up so we could ride together.

As we continued to overtake everyone the first ten minutes was over so we pulled in to take a 2 minute break. Then we were off again, it was cold and the fresh air just flew past our face. One time we were going so fast I did a long drift around this bendy corner it was so cool!

Then the red lights started flashing telling us to come back to the shed. We were all parked at the shed and we undid our helmets, and we started making our way back to the buses. On the way over the bridge we all held our breath.

We stopped to have lunch and had fish and chips, scallops and zing dings. It was pretty chill on the bus on the way back just listening to music. And half way we saw Ella, Jyan and Lulu all asleep against the window and it looked really funny because they were all leaning on the window with their mouths wide open.

As we got back to Lockington we all rushed in and went upstairs to get dressed and came back down to the kitchen for afternoon tea and had a normal afternoon. Thanks to Paul for organising!
