Pathways

The last week of term is always special as everyone looks forward to returning home to community, hunting, fishing and seeing friends and family.

For two of our MITS alumni the week was made even more special by attending the Methodist Ladies College Year 12 Formal held on 31 March.

Fiona Harrison was accompanied to the Formal by John Minjin.  Johnny had been away at a St Kevin’s camp and returned to Melbourne that afternoon to ready himself for the event.

Friends gathered at the Dinan household to celebrate the occasion and as a MITS family we are immensely proud of the achievements of both students and can’t believe how quickly the years have gone by.

Autumn is definitely here and that has signalled the start of winter uniforms and, of course, almost everyone’s favourite season - footy season!

Simeon
Simeon

Simeon Tallon-Rosas had his first game of the season for Brighton Grammar School and cousin George, his first game of Rugby for St Kevin’s College year 8 team.

It was great to see Simeon support George during his rugby game and there’s always a bonus to attending any sporting event… the obligatory sausage in bread.

St Kevin’s played against a well-drilled and victorious Melbourne Grammar side. Although not the desired result George plays miles above his size and weight.  His previous experience in rugby and rugby league and his guidance around the field and bode well for the future of SKC rugby.

The first Sunday back, the girls played the first match for the season against Doncaster Cats. The game was pretty exciting to watch as this was Elaine’s first ever game of football.

She went in full of energy and enthusiasm to play in a team she watched on the side lines for two years before having enough courage to make the decision to join in this year and play. Elaine didn’t get close enough to the ball to make any touches but we were all thrilled of her effort.

Lilly and Timikar played really well in their positions. Lilly kicked 5 goals in that game but in total 16 and Timikar in total kicked 3 goals. Kew Comets won round one against Doncaster Cats (9.8-62  - 2.4 – 16).

Well done ladies for your amazing efforts, keep shining.

What an action packed start we have had to ABH this term, with the RJFC AFL season starting on our first weekend back in Melbourne. We have had some impressive performances from all of the Alumni girls, it is uncommon for one of them not to receive a weekly award. They have shown some powerful performances with running bounces down the wing, strong tackles, goals kicked from the boundary. Over the last few weeks, we have had Moni kick 2 goals, then 7 goals and last weekend kick 10 goals. Also Tati has two games of kicking 5 goals and Pauline kicking a solid 3 goals last week. I believe that in a few years’ time we will see them starring on the AFLW stage.

The main activities that have been enjoyed over the last few weekends are ten pin bowling, shopping, movie night with the Lockington year 7 girls, cheering on the Tigers at the MCG, Karaoke and crazy shakes. As we have a lot of sport through RJFC and their schools, it is important that they have their own chill out time at the boarding house.

In recent weeks we have received amazing feedback from our Partner schools, about the efforts, attitudes and dedication that they are showing to their education. Starting with CGGS Ruby, Rumarlea and Leah were all involved in ‘Deadly learning sessions’ that the whole year 8 level participated. Kenita and Tati planned and delivered a Reconciliation week assembly in front of their entire school, with Ed Tudor also being the guest speaker. The commitment that all of the alumni girls are showing towards their school is amazing and we are all very proud of them.

Congratulations to the ABH award winners for weeks 1 – 3
