House Reports

It is often said that time flies when you are having fun and Term 1 has definitely flown by for students and staff in the Merri house. It is no surprise when we look back at all the extra events that have taken place in Term 1. We hope that our year 7s and new students have settled in and a feeling a part of the Merri Community.

The Year 7’s and 8’s have both been involved in a wellbeing day this term. All year 7 students took part in the Year 7 ‘Connect day’ on Tuesday 25 February, year 8 boys participated in a ‘Man Cave’ activity and the year 8 girls participated in a ‘#thisisme’ session. From all reports this was a very valuable experience with all students taking some constructive things away from the day. During the year 7 Connect Day there was a competition with rewards given each time a student displayed the college values of persistence, resilience and mutual respect. Our Merri year 7’s shone brightly on this day and did the Merri house extremely proud by winning the competition and proving once and for all the Merri year 7’s are AMAZING! All Merri year 7’s are invited to celebrate this win with a Pizza lunch on Tuesday 17th March during first break in W1.

Hopefully you are all aware that the athletics carnival was postponed and will now be held on Friday 20th March. Whilst we don’t want to dwell on Merri’s unfortunate result from the Swimming sports (second last) we do want to make sure that we all put in the effort as a house to make sure we rise up the ladder for the athletics carnival. History tells us that participation is the key. So, don’t be afraid to get in and have a go. After all, Merri’s moto is ‘All in, all win!’ Don’t forget to dress in orange to show your Merri pride. Can’t wait to see you all in full flight next Friday at the athletics carnival. GO MERRI!!!

We would also like to wish all the Merri year 7 and 8 students who are heading off on camp in week 9 the best of luck. Camps are always a great opportunity to make new friends and try new things. Both Norval Lodge in Halls Gap (Year 8) and Campaspe Downs in Kyneton (Year 7) are excellent camps and I can guarantee that you will have an extraordinary time.

Last but not least, we would like to take this opportunity to wish all Merri students and families a very happy and safe holiday period. We look forward to seeing what Term 2 has in store for us.
