Assistant Principal's Report
Reports - Published today
Our first progress reports are published today on compass at 3:30pm. Please log onto Compass https://wblcoll-vic.compass.education/ and discuss these progress reports with your children.
When discussing the reports with your child focus the conversation on their effort and encourage a growth mindset. Celebrate the areas that your child has achieved a pleasing percentage for effort and use “How” and “What” questions to find out what they have enjoyed and where they can improve for the next report cycle.
For example:
- What has helped you succeed in this subject?
- How could you increase your efforts in this subject for the next report cycle?
You can learn more about the importance of having a growth mindset with this short clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NWv1VdDeoRY
Athletics Carnival
We have our athletics carnival scheduled for next Friday 20th March at Brauerander Park. We would love to see as many parents/carers and grandparents there as possible to support the students as they earn points for their respective Houses. Students should wear appropriate athletic attire and a House coloured shirt. Don’t forget to slip, slop and slap!
Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
Parents are invited to make appointments to discuss their child’s learning at the upcoming Warrnambool College Parent/Student/Teacher (PST) Conferences. Conferencing together with teachers about progression is one of the most important aspects of the feedback loop in learning. By attending the conferences, families are creating an environment and a conversation at home which supports learning.
PST Conferences will be held from 4pm - 7pm on Thursday April 16 and Monday April 20 in Term 2.
Parents will be able to book a 10 minute time slot with their child’s teachers on either night on Compass from March 25th.
Uniform
Firstly, thank you to the large number of students who attend school on a regular basis and wear full school uniform. Students/families should be aiming for 100% attendance at school; 90% attendance means a student is missing a day every fortnight (20 days for the year); 80% is a day per week (40 days absent). When families decide to come to Warrnambool College they agree to follow all school policies, including uniform. Unfortunately a small number of students are choosing to wear hoodies, black jackets and black pants/shorts which are not school uniform.
Our staff check uniform daily and will be making observations; staff will not engage in any arguments about uniform. If students are choosing to come out of uniform, they may not be able to access school facilities/events in the future. Staff will place Compass chronicle entries up if a student continues to attend out of uniform.
If students need support with uniform please inform a staff member, we have uniform items at Wellbeing that have been donated by families.
