SRC Flood Appeal – Fundraising for Rochester Secondary College.

In October, the small town of Rochester suffered from catastrophic flooding. Sadly, it was only 11 years after its last major flood. This time however was flooding at record breaking levels with all houses, schools and buildings suffering from some degree of damage. It is estimated that only 5 houses, in a town with a population of 3113, were spared. The secondary school and both primary schools had flood damage to every classroom. One newspaper wrote that, “Every classroom, and the office, suffered water damage. There is not a single dry inch at either school”. Every business was flood affected and some will never be able to open its doors again. For some residents it will take up to a year to rebuild and return to their homes. Others will never be able to go home again.

On the 24th of November, Wheelers Hill Secondary Collage come together as a school and community to raise money for the badly affected Rochester Secondary College, to show them that we care and we are looking out for them. Because of the generosity of the staff and students, we were able to raise $513, and this money was sent straight to the school, who are extremely grateful.

‘We received your kind donation, thank you so much for thinking of us. We are putting the funds towards replenishing our library books and sporting equipment.  We are planning to be back on site at Rochester in portables from the start of the 2023 school year so the new equipment and books will be very much appreciated by our students.’ – Rochester Secondary College

Thank you to all members of the WHSC community who donated to this worthy cause and have helped make a positive impact in an otherwise devastating situation.
