Spring Showcase

On Monday the 28th of November, Wheelers Hill SC held our yearly Music Spring Showcase. This included performances from the two VET Music bands (M01 and The Unsociables), Year 7 Concert Band, Choir, Guitar Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. These students have all worked extremely hard this semester and we are beyond proud of their efforts. Ensembles are held every week by our music teachers David Gill, Kirsty Mechielsen, Annie Stone, Leigh Collins, Yael Zamir and Jeremy Schiftan and will carry on into 2023. Thank you to our students Amineh Araujo Rodriguez and Abigail Butcher for MCing the night and thank you to all parents, family, friends, and staff who came down to support the students. These events would not happen without you.

SpongeBob Auditions and Cast

We’ve been extremely keen to get a head start on our College Production for next year, and have been working through auditions and callbacks the past few weeks!

We have seen some incredible talent come through and picking students and casting the roles was extremely difficult. Please see the cast list below – Congratulations to everyone!

We look forward to adding our new Year 7s to the ensemble early in Term 1 2023.

Note from Performing Arts Leader

I would like to say a huge thank you to the Instrumental Music and Performing Arts Staff for all their hard work this year.

As my role is changing next year to Community Connections and Student Voice, Agency and Leadership, I know that the Instrumental Music program is in amazing hands with Ms. Kirsty Mechielsen who will be the Head of Music, and the College Production will be even more spectacular with Ms. Mikayla Ellis taking on the position of Production Manager and Director.

I look forward to continuing to work within the team and can’t wait to see what we manage to accomplish in 2023!

Design Sprint

During the week of Monday 5th-9th December, students participated in the Design Sprint where students collaborated to overhauling the identities of their school houses and re-designing the logos for them.

A Design Sprint is a fast-paced approach to tackling big challenges which is used a lot in STEM. The aim is to think outside of the square and use each others combined ideas to come up with a unique and creative result that you wouldn’t have thought of as individuals. They finished off the Sprint with a game of Dodgeball in their houses.

This was a fantastic opportunity for students to collaborate with students from other year levels and to not only learn about their house, but create their own connection to their school house. Here are some pictures from the week:
