These orienteering championships in regional Victoria included challenging navigation and terrain with some events in old gold mining areas.

Outstanding performances from these four Friends' School students and the Tasmanian Schools' Orienteering Team in 2022.

Congratulations and well done to our Girls' Firsts Hockey team who scored a comprehensive win on Wednesday 23 September over St Patrick's College to claim the State Hockey Shield. This is the first time in 10 years the School has won the title and possibly the biggest winning margin in the history of SATIS competition.
The team was a combination of Year 9 to 12 students and it was a fitting way to farewell our two Year 12 players Olivia McHugh and Anna Rawson.
Towards the end of Term 3, the Year 9/10 AFL girls’ team were going up against Sacred Heart College in the SATIS final. Earlier in the season they only beat Sacred Heart by a nail-biting one goal which was scored in the last 5 minutes. This, combined with the fact that a few key players were missing the final, resulted in the nerves amongst the team being high. Despite this, the team went out and played one of their best games of the whole season and had a convincing win.
In mid-October at Franklin, the Boys came first and fourth in the U19 coxed four, first in the U19 eight, second in U21 pair and first in the senior men's eight. The Girls placed first and second in the U19 pair, third in the U19 single skull, first in the U19 coxed four, first in the U19 eight and second in the U21 eight.
The Year 9/10 Girls Touch Football team won the Southern Tasmanian Schools Tournament in mid-September by defeating Bayview (6-0), Clarence (4-1), MacKillop (2-1) and Clarence (2-1) in the final. The girls demonstrated great sportsmanship and resilience throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all the team.
Oliver Thiessen represented the School and Tasmania in the School Sports Australia National Triathlon Championships held in Hervey Bay in early September.
Oliver delivered a great performance and showed wonderful sportsmanship as he competed during the event.
The School Sports Australia National Triathlon Championships will be held in Tasmania next year. Devonport will host the event on 13 – 16 March 2023.
Congratulations and well done to our students who took part in the State College Basketball Championships at the Moonah Sports Stadium in September. The team recorded wins against Rosny College, Newstead College and Elizabeth College and went down only narrowly to Hutchins to finish in second place in their Division 2 pool. In the playoff for third place, the boys went down by only four points. Thanks to coach Ronnie Riggs and Co-ordinator Lynne Males for their work with the team.

Years 11 and 12 Recreation For Life classes visited Eastside Squash Centre in late August to participate in a squash session with Friends' alumnus Jack Hudson (2018) who is also an Australian Squash Representative. The students worked through agility and skill drills before some friendly competition. It was an enjoyable and active way to take a break from study and participate in some fun physical activity through a Clemes A course.
Congratulations to Belle Kruimink (Year 11), Emily Rockefeller (Year 11) and Oscar Pritchard (Year 11) who were selected in respective squads for the Tassie Tigers Hockey One League. The Friends' School is well represented with seven alumni, including Kookaburras Captain and four-time Olympian, Eddie Ockenden (2005). Well done Belle, Emily and Oscar, and Eddie, Benji Austin (2015), Ollie Pritchard (2021), Ben Read (2010), Grace Calvert (2013), Hannah Richardson (2008) and Louise Maddock (2017). Congratulations to all the athletes selected!
