SPORT REPORT

Term 3 sport at Dromana started off with a bang! On the first Thursday back, our cross-country team headed to the Yarra Valley Racing club for the State Championships. Our team of eight consisted of Imogen Baker, Isabel Bayliss, Tahli Browne, Charlie Kyberd, Skye Spicer, Mia Spicer, and Hunter Wheeler. Our whole team should be very proud of themselves as it is no easy feat to make it to this level and they were an exceptional representation of the College.  I would like to further congratulate Imogen Baker and Charlie Kyberd for both finishing third in their event!

 

In addition to cross-country, Dromana has been very successful in the Team Sport competitions. Below are the term 3 champions from the Southern Peninsula District (SPD)

During term 3 we saw many teams across the year levels represent the school in the next level of school sports, the Southern Metropolitan Region (SMR). Dromana had a total of 13 teams competing against the best schools in the region for the following sports: soccer, hockey, football, table tennis, badminton, basketball and netball. From these teams, our year 8 badminton team were named the runners up for the SMR division, congratulations to Jack Galli, Charles Hollow, Noah King, Owen Knaggs and Thomas Walkington.

 

I always enjoy reflecting and looking back on the sporting term. Yet again, our participation rate has been very impressive, and I am very proud of all students who represented our school. It is great to constantly see our school values represented through our students.

AEROBICS 

AEROBICS STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Aerobics Enhancement students had a massive weekend competing at the State Championships in Hampton park. We had competitors on both Saturday and Sunday that performed fantastically against Victoria’s best from a range of private and public schools, and aerobics specialist clubs. Our students represented the school brilliantly taking out 2 golds, 4 silvers and a 7th place.

Our students that medalled have qualified for the National Championships that will be held in September. 

 

Dromana Diamonds came 1st overall in the Year 7-9 Novice

Dromana All-Stars came 7th overall in Year 7-9 Novice

Dromana Thunder Came 2nd overall in Year 7-12 Advanced section 

 

DUOS 

Zali HORNER and Emma UNSWORTH came 1st in the 14 years and under Intermediate category.

 

Arki Hyett and Tahlia Knaggs came 2nd in the 18 years and under Advanced category

 

SOLOS

Liv Siddons came 2nd in the 18 years and under Advanced category

 

Mia MERRIFIELD came 2nd in the 18 years and under Intermediate category

 

YEAR 8 NETBALL 

Both boys and girls teams successfully made it to the SMR finals to compete against other teams in our region. The boys team and the girls A team both came second in their section after a day of tough competitions. The Girls B team had a fantastic day winning overall and receiving a pennant for their achievement Congratulations to all involved! Fabulous results.

 

The Year 8 Boys team and Year 8 Girls A team headed to Waverly to compete in the Netball Victoria All-Schools competition in early August. The students tested their skills and teamwork competing against private, public and catholic schools. Congratulations to all involved you all strived to achieve your individual and team potential.

SSV STATE CROSS  COUNTRY 

On Thursday the 14th of June, a group of our students attended the SSV State Cross- Country Championships at the Yarra Valley Racing Club. We had amazing results with Imogen Baker (yr 10) and Charlie Kyberd (yr11) both came 3rd.

Also, the 12/13 girls Isabel Bayliss, Tahli Browne and Skye Spicer came 6th as a team 

INDIVIDUAL SUCCESS

MOLLY MCLEAN

Congratulations to Molly McLean, she is currently in California playing in the American Junior Golf Association tournament at Palouse Ridge Golf Club. She finished first in the qualifying round and played wonderfully in the 3-day tournament, Finishing tied 11th in the final round. 

 

AVA HOLLAND 

Our amazing Ava Holland Year 8 , The goofy-footer (a surfer who stands with their right foot facing the front of the board) from Dromana – who turns 14 this month – showed her style during the six-day event to win the under-16 division with a 13.80 two-wave heat total’ Check out Mornington Peninsula News Group Mornington Peninsula News Group latest Article ‘A goofy’s winning style’ on her! 

 

 

 

IMOGEN BAKER

A Big congratulations to Imogen Baker (Year 10) who competed in the All Schools Cross Country and placed 8th out of the 90 competitors, which is an incredible effort. 

 

MATTHEW RILEY AND CHARLIE UNDERWOOD

Matthew Riley in year eight participated in the Australian National Karate Championships in Rockhampton QLD a few weekends ago. He won gold in his weight division. His division was 12/13 year old and under 40kgs  and won gold in the under 14 boys team event 

Charlie Underwood (Year 7) also won bronze 12/13 year old division, under 45kgs
