PERFORMING ARTS REPORT

Mornington Peninsula Choral Festival

On Thursday 11 August Dromana College students performed at the 2022 Mornington Peninsula Choral Festival. The college was proudly represented by the Junior and Senior Vocal Ensembles who performed impressively to a large audience at the Peninsula Community Theatre in Mornington. The choirs performed a range of songs to the receptive audience who greatly appreciated their performances.

The Mornington Peninsula Choral Festival saw a range of school and community choirs come together to perform and celebrate the pleasure of singing with a group of people. The night ended with a group singalong of ‘Lean on Me’ where all the choirs and audience members joined together to sing.

Term 3 Music Soirées

The annual Vocal Soirée took place in early August, which focused on performances from some of Dromana College’s talented singers. With a range of solo and ensemble performances the students performed to a very high standard. As always, this soirée was very well attended by students, parents/guardians and staff.

The Term 3 Dromana College Music Soirèe was held on the evening of Wednesday 7th September. This Soirée was held in the Library and saw the students perform in front of fairy light clad bookshelves. The soiree commenced at 5:30pm and saw a range of student performances from years 7 to 12. The audience was well attended with a great turnout to support the students performing. For the Year 12 students performing it was their last soiree at Dromana College.

While a sad moment, this was also one of celebration as these students prepare to move onto their post-secondary college life after their VCE exams are completed later this year. We’d like to take the opportunity to thank our Year 12s for their years in the Music Department and wish them the best in their future endeavours. A special thanks to our two Music Captains this year, Rani Thuan and Luca Wolfe, for their hard work, commitment and excellent leadership.

DANCE

On Thursday 1st of September we had our term 3 Dance Performance evening.

This evening was hosted by our dance captains:

Liana Samson-Piniata and Alley Rees.

It was an intimate evening with 5 dances performed.  We were delighted to enjoy our year 12 VCE Dance students perform their two performance exam pieces, included their skills solo’s and their composition solo’s.

We also had a fabulous performance by Dance Club, which includes students from year 7 – year 12, performing a beautiful lyrical number, choregraphed by Ms Jennii Johnson.

We look forward to our final Dance performance evening on October 27th, when year 9, year 11 and Dance Club will perform.

On Thursday, 8th September 50 students headed off to the Melbourne Arts Centre for a fabulous day of dance, where they had the privilege to watch the acclaimed Sydney Dance Company perform Impermanence, along with a Questions and Answers with the company afterwards. Not only did they have this amazing opportunity, they also enjoyed a free refreshment pack, lunch in the gardens before the rain prompted us back on the bus to Dromana College. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all. We would like to thank those who funded this excursion, such as the Education Department and Melbourne Arts Centre.
