Principal's Report

Term 3, 2022

As we plan to commence our last term for 2022, it has been most pleasing to see students engaging with all aspects of school life and their new semester subjects with a positive attitude and enthusiasm. For some, a new semester presents itself as an opportunity to continue to build on the great work being done, whilst for others it can be seen as a chance to regroup and refocus on their goals.

With the ongoing issue of COVID-19 and absences impacting both staff and students, challenges continue as to ensure our programs run unimpeded and I am pleased that we have continued to operate as normal. I wish to extend my thanks to our entire college community for their patience and support.

We concluded last term with the publication of Semester 1 Reports. I do hope that you have had the opportunity over the break and leading into this term to discuss this report with your child.

I am proud to share with you our NAPLAN results for 2022. Our results are cause for celebration, and a testament to the great work being done collectively across the school in supporting our students to develop above state literacy and numeracy skills. The number of students who achieved results in the Top 2 Achievement Bands in the reading, writing and numeracy tests was significantly higher than not only similar and network schools, but most impressively, the state. Our participation in NAPLAN 2022 was also the highest in our history and despite new challenges that arose from an online and unfamiliar test platform, our students have again thrived. Well done to all. I look forward to celebrating these results with our fantastic students in the coming weeks.

Soon we will start the final stages of our M Room Development. This will become a Year Level Area similar to that of the O Block. It will provide the school with an additional positive and immersive teaching and learning area for students to study and have ownership of a space that is theirs.

Next term we begin the process of completing our Strategic Plan and considering the next steps in our school journey. It is an exciting time for Dromana College as we celebrate, reflect, and set goals for the next four years. I look forward to sharing this journey with our wider college community.

Have a safe break.
