2019 Book Club

2019 Book Club - All Welcome!

2019 in the PHSC Library has kicked off with one very full book club, loads of new books, and lots of displays and chats about our wonderful, varied collection.

Book Club meets in the library after school once a month (Monday or Thursday). If you enjoy reading and books, please join in to explore a different theme each month, sharing food and thoughts. Dates and themes are posted in Compass and in the Library. You can also keep up to date via our Instagram account, phsclibrary

A big thanks to everyone who came to the February Book Club, which was a great chance to rave about summer reading. It was awesome to see so many new (and not so new) faces, including teaching staff. Many recommended books are already here in the Library - others are now on their way - and include:

We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves (“devastating”)
The Knife of Never Letting Go (“Patrick Ness is brilliant!”)
The Night Circus (“Magical!... Dark!”)
When the Lights Go Out (adventure)
A Murder Most Unladylike ("detective society in a school, investigating a murder")
Little Monsters (murder in an American high school)
The Normal People (“a love story… but not mushy”)
Jonathan Livingston Seagull ("a great book and an easy read")

The Mortal Instrument fantasy series
The complex mixed genre Sythe, which is followed by Thunderhead
The espionage story Six of Crows, sequel to Crooked City)
The very creepy Asylum series
The Kingdoms and Empires series, especially The Slightly Alarming Tale of the Whispering Wars
And anything by Laura Ingles Wilder

... and for those interested in non-fiction:

· The Trauma Cleaner ("unexpected and fascinating")

· The Tall Man (about the death of an indigenous man in police custody)
