Year 9/10

Year 9:

On August 29th, the Year 9 students studying Mandarin took part in the 2023 Chinese Cultural Day, hosted at Melbourne Town Hall. Drawing nearly 2000 students from ten various schools across Victoria, the event featured an array of engaging activities.

The students engaged in a variety of cultural workshops, meticulously organized by the Confucius Institutes affiliated with universities. These workshops encompassed activities like Chinese printing, crafting Chinese knots and coin ornaments, and creating traditional Chinese fans. Additionally, the agenda included captivating performances, including the mesmerizing Lion Dance and a presentation showcasing the talents of Chinese traditional instrument players.

A highlight of the event was the sharing session by the winners of the Chinese Bridge competition. Through their stories, the students were able to gain insights into the journey of learning Mandarin. This cultural day not only fostered a deeper appreciation for Chinese traditions but also facilitated the exchange of language learning experiences among the participants.

Year 10:

Last week of Term 3 was spent celebrating the amazing growth and achievement we saw with our students. The Year Level leaders are extremely proud of all year 10 student and the effort that have made this term to better themselves and their community. They have challenged themselves and pushed through a long old term and have achieved some amazing results. We look forward to working with all the students again in term 4, before they make the exciting transition to the Senior School. Have a well deserved, restful and happy holiday, with family and friends.

Year 10 Wellbeing Day;

Wednesday 13th September the year 10 leaders ran a Wellbeing day for Year 10 students. Students spent the day in their home group and participated in a range of activities aimed to increase their wellbeing, decrease stress and foster relationships between them, their peers and teachers. We had a visit from Dale Sidebottom from Jugar life, play consultant that taught us how to play games and have fun to support our mental health and wellbeing. Dale shared some fun games with students and spoke to us about how we can support our own and others wellbeing in simple and effective ways.

After the high energy session with Dale, students were able to enjoy the glorious spring Sunshine and games such as giant Jenga, spike ball, 4 square, corn hole, finska, giant connect 4 and participate in some chalk drawing on the pavement in the Agora, while other participated in a rather competitive game of volleyball!

Team challenge activities were next, students could compete in paper plane and paper toss competitions as well as a raspberry model challenge, where students had to work as a team to re-create a model made out of raspberry lollies and toothpicks.

We finished that day with a celebration assembly where we gave out a huge number of awards to celebrate the highly successful term 3. The assembly was concluded with a wonderful performance from an ensemble group of year 10 music students who had the crowd singing along with them!
