Conference 1 & 2 Athletics Carnival

 

On Tuesday, 16 August 2022, the Conference 1 & 2 Athletics Carnival was held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. 

 

We had 29 girls placed at the Carnival and they will progress to the next round, the Sydney Catholic Schools Athletics Championships, this coming Friday.

Rowing Club Term 4 

 

Glebe Rowing club is really excited about the opportunity to establish a program for Brigidine. The program will serve as a great pathway to build on the club's schoolgirl junior program.   

 

Glebe Rowing Club Program Outline

What GRC will provideA 10 week Learn-to-Row course where students will have the opportunity to learn sweep oar (one oar) and sculling (two oar) crew rowing.  After the course, students who are keen will be invited to join the club’s Summer or Winter Holiday Junior Training program or join the clubs as a junior squad member. 
Number of participants Maximum 25 participants 
Session number10 sessions 
CostThe school will pay for the majority of the course as well as the transport. Each student will need to pay $50. A direct payment link will be set up on Compass.  
ScheduleThursdays, 12:45 – 2:15pm (1.5hrs in total) 
TransportStudents will be transported to and from Glebe Rowing Club  
Coaching pool (for July group)

3 coaches per session from the following pool.  All coaches will have WWCC numbers we can provide and at least 1 will be first aid trained.

  •  Ella Barnard - Ella is a current USyd student, a previous rowing Captain from Cambridge University and has Great Britain Rowing Level II Accreditation and GB Army Health and Safety training and accreditation.
  • Chris Iredale - Chris is a current University student and coach at Sydney Grammar School and was a winning Head of the River Cox.  He has Rowing Australia Level I Coaching Accreditation
  •  Jenny McKeown - Jenny is a recently retired primary school principal and a coach at GRC for over 20 years.
  • Bridie Morrison - Bridie has been a cox and athlete at GRC for 5 years and is a current Yr 11 student at Brigidine College  
 
Bad weather scenario 

In the case of bad weather, and where school sport is still on, we will be able to have students at the club and will be able to host them indoors on rowing machines.

Sophie Ferenczi

On Friday 26th August Sophie Ferenczi participated in the combined Athletics Australia and School Sport Australia Championship. A massive congratulations on her impeccable individual and team achievements. 

 

Individual: 12th in the under 20s 6km,

 

NSW Team: 1st in the 5 x 2km relay

NSW Team: Overall National Champions  

 

 

Ruby Thomasyu

Congratulations to Ruby Thomasyu who recently competed  in the Australian Under 20’s women’s squad for Touch Football in Queensland. 

 

"To be at the Australian selection camp for the Youth Touch Football World cup was a fantastic experience that I thoroughly enjoyed. Being beside the best players and coaches in the country taught me so much more about the game and how to play well. I am very grateful to have been there."
