Mr Damian Roff

I would like to take the opportunity to wish our College Community a well earned holiday and a very holy and hopeful Easter. Easter is a day of great hope and of new life. We are reminded that Jesus is alive and in our midst and he welcomes us in a new life with him. Please check your local parish times for mass on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter. For those that have never experienced the Vigil Mass on the eve of Easter Sunday, I thoroughly recommend the experience. Stay safe over the holidays and may our community come back revitalised for Term 2.

Students will be expected back in winter uniform. The next two terms can be cold so please stock up on warm uniform items including the school jumper and the school tracksuit for sport. On Monday, at the student briefing, we were reminded that when we wear a uniform, not just O'Connor students, but sporting teams and work places, we are representing more than just ourselves. We are representing everybody else that wears that uniform and we are representing the principles and values of that organisation. How do we want to be seen, by the way we wear our uniform and the way we interact and work whilst wearing it? O'Connor Catholic College is a great College with a great community supporting it, the uniform should be worn with this responsibility in mind.

Whilst in other parts of the state where schools have been in survival mode due to staff shortages forced by increasing COVID numbers, our College has been blessed insofar that classes have continued and learning has still been a high priority. Learning walks have provided plenty of evidence of a calm working environment prevailing in difficult times.

During holidays, although students deserve their break, can I suggest that time away from screens can also be relaxing, fun and long term beneficial? Read a book, help out around the house, cook, exercise or enjoy the outdoors in one of Armidale's beautiful parks. You won't regret it.

Thanks to all the amazing staff providing co curricular activities at O'Connor. In the last couple of weeks we have enjoyed debating various codes of football, the Da Vinci Decathlon, cross country, youth group, and a number of excursions. It was great to see Year 9 PDHPE classes visit Vinnies in town to learn about the great service network they provide the Armidale community and the rewards of volunteering in helping those that need a hand.

Happy Easter to all. He is risen!
