Mrs Mellissa Bell

I am sure that I am not alone in my struggle to come to terms with the fact we are now about to celebrate Easter and the end of the first term of 2022. I find myself reflecting on the work that has been done, the changes we have implemented and the impact on the community in which we call O’Connor Catholic College. We have held numerous parent evenings that allowed us to reconnect, to share our vision and expectations, to build connections and to foster these within our everyday commitment to our students. Our students have spent ten weeks engaged in learning, creating a sense of belonging and building this community into what it is today.

Next term we will begin preparing for Student Led Conferencing in our PAC lessons. We will be setting long and short term goals and taking time to reflect on our learning and engagement in classes. This is often a real time for identifying areas of strengths and then creating a space to explore these in the classroom. Teachers will be working with students, providing feedback and guidance on work samples. Student Led Conferencing is a real opportunity to celebrate learning and to allow for real conversations about dreams and goals. I have always enjoyed this approach as both a PAC teacher and as someone who has occasionally dropped into a conference and been inspired by the young person in front of me. Student Led Conferencing will be held for Stages 4 and 5 early Term 3, I would encourage all our families to participate in the opportunity.

Students will return to school next term in their winter uniforms. I would like to encourage you to take a moment to check that your student has all the components of the uniform and will be ready to look their most awesome for their return on April 26. You will find the uniform requirements listed in the student diaries. Appointments for the uniform shop can be made via the office. Being prepared for Term 2 also includes shoes and appropriate socks/stockings and we ask students to ensure that they wear their hair back if it is shoulder length or longer.

May you all have a happy and holy Easter break, where you are able to share some special moments with your loved ones. Stay safe. We look forward to seeing you next term.
