Regional Chess Game against O’Connor Catholic College 2022

On Thursday 17 March, McCarthy Catholic College Chess Club travelled to Armidale to play the first round of the NSWJCL Country Secondary Schools Chess Team Competition against O’Connor Catholic College. Both representative and social players played well and were excellent ambassadors of the College. Unfortunately, the day belonged to O’Connor Catholic College, whose players won 3 of the 4 games.

I am extremely proud of the players and wish O’Connor Catholic College all the best as they advance to the second round. There are many more games planned for the players of the chess club, as they prepare to play against Farrer Memorial Agricultural High school in the final week of the school term. Next term, there are plans for further games against Farrer and O’Connor planned, as well as games against St Mary’s, Gunnadah and Narrabri High School.

The Chess Club runs every Friday Lunchtime and is open to all students who are interested in playing.
