Diocese Under 15 Touch Football Trials 2022
On Thursday 10 March the Diocesan Under 15 Touch Football trials were held at Inverell. Some very competitive matches were played against the other schools across the Diocese. The boys and girls played some great games showing outstanding skills and fitness. Alan Tongue Rugby League 10’s
On Friday 18 March our under 14 and 16 boys Rugby League teams travelled to Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School to participate in the Alan Tongue 10’s competition. After not having a lot of footy for the last couple of years the boys were keen to get involved and had been training hard at lunchtimes with Mr Williams and Mr Kenniff. There were a number of schools competing in the competition, as well as the Tamworth Schools, there was Walcha and Quirindi High School which was great for the participants.
Farrer as usual were very strong opponents and the boys played them first up. The boys were competitive and showed plenty of spirit despite the loss. In the 14s, Captain Henry Gilbert, Vice-captain Harry Hudson and Adam Clemson as well as Manny ran hard and straight through the middle. The 14’s had a narrow win against Peel High School in the next game as they steadily improved throughout the day. All players put in a great effort on the day. Great skills were shown by the Year 7 players who were playing up an age group. Cooper Peterson at dummy half gave great passes to Henry Gilbert and he in turn passed to the runners. Congratulations to all and many thanks to Miss Porter and Mrs Smith.
The Under 16 team had a win and a loss in their next two games against Peel and Tamworth High School. There were a number of strong performances from individuals and the team effort and play was always willing. Sam Butcher performed well in both attack and defence as did Lawson Thompson, Callan Cotton, Marlie Ring and Joshua Beard. The teams on the day included:

NSW Netball Schools Cup
On Wednesday 30 March the 2022 Tamworth local Netball NSW Schools Cup Championships were held at the Sportsdome netball courts. McCarthy Catholic College was very well represented at these Championships with 11 teams and more than 90 players. Other participating schools included Manilla Central, Barraba Central, Oxley High School, and Tamworth High School.
We were fortunate to have many talented players with several students playing in the Tamworth Junior Representative netball teams. Teams that won their pools included the year 9/10 boys teams Rabbits and Bears, the year 7/8 boys team, year 7/8 girls Tigers team, Year 9/10 girls Roosters team and Year 9/10 girls Eels team. Many of these teams went through the games undefeated but there was still some tough competition with close matches being played out. The year 7/8 boys were the only junior boys team so they played up in the year 9/10 boys division where they did really well to win two and lose two games. The year 9/10 girls Roosters team was an outstanding team but were tested against a spirited Oxley outfit winning 14-10.
Many of the year 9/10 boys played last year and have further developed their skills this year. They enjoyed the day thoroughly as did the year 7/8 boys who improved significantly throughout the day. A special thanks to all the students who umpired games including Tyanna Kerr and Amber Burrows who worked hard officiating in most of the scheduled games.
A big thank you to all the parents who helped out coaching, managing and supporting our teams. And to the teachers who helped train and coach the teams in the lead up to the event a huge thank you to Miss Gambrill, Mrs Smith, Miss Porter and Mrs Anderson. Thank you to Netball NSW for running the event and we look forward to the North West Championships on 14 September. The teams that qualified for the North West Netball Championships included:
