Meet the McCarthy Careers Team for 2022
This year we have a team of staff looking after and covering all the needs of our McCarthy students as they make decisions and begin to pursue career pathways leading to their transition from school to employment or further studies at TAFE or university.

ADF Recruiting Visit
This week we had Morgan and Rod from the Defence Force Recruiting Team visit McCarthy to speak to interested students about Defence Force life, how to join, trade and officer entry, gap year opportunities and more career pathways.
Work Experience Update
We currently have a number of students engaged in Work Experience programs during the final week of Term and the upcoming school holidays. These will allow students to experience the work environment of their chosen work industry. We appreciate the opportunity provided by employers Kevin George Motors, Michell Truck Bodies, Wild Orchid Hair & Beauty, St Mary’s Pre-School, Tamworth Regional Council, TOTAL Electrical & Data Services, Bath Stewart and Simmonds Kitchens.

We use Google Classrooms to announce positions vacant, opportunities and advertise University notices daily. Information is shared to students from suitable job searches and from direct links and enquiries from local employers and Universities.

University Information Night - Wednesday 27 April 2022
7:00pm - 8:15pm, Our Lady of the Rosary Theatre
Year 11 and 12 students and their parents are invited to attend this information session. It will cover a range of topics including the procedure, dates and deadlines, what is involved, financial costs of having a child study at university, deferring, gap years, scholarships and many other aspects.
- Year 12 - for families with a student thinking applying to attend university or is considering this in 2023 or after a gap year
- Year 11 - for families to find out what lies ahead and how to start to plan and prepare
UNE Open Day - Friday 6 May 2022
All Year 12 students have been sent a survey asking if they are interested in participating in an excursion to visit UNE in Armidale for their 2022 Open Day. If they are applying to the UNE for their early entry scheme, it is highly recommended as it will assist in making course selection. Students will also be able to tour the colleges and go on tours around the university as well as talk to lecturers about the courses available.
Year 10 and 12 Student Surveys
We have recently completed Surveys with our Year 10 and Year 12 students. From these survey results we will be able to create focus groups and start to work with these students during Term 2. The groups will be assisted with their transition from McCarthy to the workforce, University applications including Early Entry Schemes, continuing education at TAFE, SBAT & TVET planning for 2023, subject choices and opportunities in Year 11 & 12.
