Principal's Report

Jane King (Acting Principal)

Term 2 Week 6

During this fortnight the Pakenham Springs Learning Community have kept busy with the usual 5 hours of Reading, Writing, Mathematics and specialist subjects as well as NAPLAN, Parent/Carer/Student conferences, excursions (Prep and Year 1), camp information session (Year 4), professional learning, May birthday morning tea and the school captains leadership conference held in the city, as well as the National Simultaneous Storytime event.  We accomplished all this despite the circuit 7-day lockdown announced on Thursday.

NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS BOOK READ

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is held annually by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).  Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops, and many other places around the country.  It is a colourful, vibrant, fun event that aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum from Foundation to Year 6.  By facilitating NSS, Pakenham Springs Primary School promoted the value of reading and literacy, the value and fun of books, and an Australian writer and publisher. Our Media Arts department got behind the event by creating an online reading of the book. https://youtu.be/OJ_f0EMHqqI

Here we go again - REMOTE LEARNING

As we are all well away, the government announced a seven-day lockdown as of midnight Thursday 27th May.  This means the school will only be open to students of essential workers during their working shift hours, where both parents must work away from home and identified vulnerable students who cannot find care AND who have registered via the school office (03) 5945 7400.  Approved students onsite will complete the same remote learning as those students offsite.

Your child's classroom teacher will be working a mixture of onsite and offsite days. They have communicated WebEx meetings via COMPASS.  Other important classroom information will also be communicated using COMPASS so please ensure you are regularly accessing this platform for further updates.

We have done it before and WE CAN DO IT again!

Prospective Prep Evening Session

As this session cannot run face to face, the Prep team shared the information to be presented prior to the Monday evening event.  Tonight, the Prep team is offering an online Q&A session via WebEx.  This is the perfect opportunity for families to ask questions based on the information as well as any other questions future families may have.  Here at Pakenham Springs Primary School, we understand how important it is for parents to feel comfortable and informed with their child’s schooling choice.  We welcome all prospective prep families to this session and ask that you share this information with families that you know are wishing to enrol at PSPS in 2022.  This information, including the webEx link, is also available on our school website.

Prospective Prep Session for 2022 enrolment, Pakenham Springs Primary School Monday 31st May 2021 - 6.00pm live event via WebEX.
