Learning in M32

Middle School M32 Windley/Godfrey is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

In M32 we have been placing a big emphasis on friendship and learning about what makes a healthy friendship and how we can show kindness towards others.  We have recognised that a small act of kindness, such as giving someone a compliment, has the power to turn someone’s day around.  We enjoyed making ‘compliment rainbows’ for a friend in the class.  These rainbows hang proudly in our room and are there for students to read if ever they’re having a bad day and need a pick-me-up!  We have also recently created bucket fillers in which students are able to post positive messages to each other.  Checking our buckets each day always brings a smile to our faces!

Last week we took part in an online Kids Help session which taught us some very valuable skills for dealing with conflict and ensuring our friendships are ‘healthy’.  Students came away with some wonderful strategies and steps which they have already been utilising in the yard.

Here is what we have learnt about what makes a good friend:

Marcus: A good friend will not boss you around.
Sabeeka: Good friends make you feel happy and pumped!
Tyce: Some friends like different stuff and that’s ok.
Ashton E: Good friends tell each other how they feel.
Brooke: Good friends tell each other their feelings,
Amberlee: Good friends don’t lie or hurt each other.
Riley: Friends listen to each other and play each other’s games.
Rayan: Good friends speak kindly.
Jake: Friends share all of their awesome things.
Maleesha: Good friends listen to each other.
Dion: Friends play together.
Jamie: A good friend is very honest.
