Year 8 Boys Soccer Tournament

On Tuesday the 22nd of May, the Year 8 boys Soccer team competed in an interschool tournament in Bendigo. We left early and arrived in time to play our first 24-minute game against Catherine McAuley College (CMC).

In the first half we had the majority of possession and even scored a goal before it was disallowed for an offside play. The second half was a very even tussle with neither of the teams managing to put one in. Result: 0-0.

After a quick break, we were back on to play our second match up against Girton. Once again, both teams had a few good opportunities; however, neither could find the net. It came down to the last few minutes when an unlucky call in the Castlemaine box occurred. This resulted in a penalty, neatly placed by the Girton Midfielder, the game ending 1-0.

Castlemaine’s finals hope relied on Girton beating CMC in their last pool match. Unfortunately, the results did not go our way as CMC beat Girton 2-1.

Our last match was against Eaglehawk, since the result of the previous match came in, our team decided to play all out attack. Two forced errors in the first 12-minutes gave CSC a strong lead at half-time. In the second half, some good build-up play in the attacking half granted CSC a three goal extension to their lead. Castlemaine won the game 5-0, finishing the day with four points.

Even though the boys were disappointed not to play finals, we enjoyed the competition and thanks to all the players who participated and contributed to an enjoyable experience.

 Year 7/8 Girl Soccer Report

The Year 7/8 Girls’ team went into the competition as an untried combination and probably the underdogs. The team made up for a lack of soccer experience and knowledge with great enthusiasm, pleasing fitness, endless persistence and determination and great team spirit and encouragement for each other. Our first opponents were Crusoe College and it was a tight tussle for 10 minutes before Castlemaine scored after some excellent passing. The girls were so surprised at their effort they didn’t know “what happens” after a goal is scored…”Go back and score another one”…. And they did, beating Crusoe 2-0. The team was so delighted that they ran across 2 pitches to tell the boys team of their success!!

Mrs Woods and Eli were hi-fiving on the sidelines. Then we learnt that that Girton had beaten Weeroona  10-0 and we had to face them next! They only beat us 8-0 and Saskia L saved many more goals.  Our last pool match was against Weeroona and with brilliant defensive efforts from Mia N, Sally F, Lulu S and Alice C and Saskia in goals again, it was up to Eliza, Rosie M, Zoe P, Chloe, Astrid H, Yindi A, Alkira and Alina to kick some goals. We beat Weeroona 5-0 and that meant a place in the semi -finals against BSE. They were a very professional outfit and scored in the first minute. CSC still managed to have a lot of shots at goal and acquitted themselves very well, but went down 4-0. Great effort girls and look out 2019!! Thanks Mrs Woods and Eli Saunders for your coaching and running the lines.

Year 7/8 Netball Reports

On Tuesday the 22nd of May, the year 7B team went to interschool netball in Bendigo and had an amazing day. We played other teams from different Bendigo schools; the schools we played were Girton, Marist, Weeroona and East Loddon. Everyone played really well and didn’t give up.

We would like to thank everyone that played in the team: Eve, Marni, Zoe, Brianna, Breanna, Kayla and our wonderful  year 11 coach Abbie! Also a massive thank to Ms Squire and Ms Brownscombe for the day.

Tuesday was a great day, the girls in the 7A team put in an amazing effort in all three games against strong Bendigo sides, which unfortunately were lost. Although the scores weren’t overly close the girls did a really good job throughout the day and never gave up.

Thanks to the players in the team, Summer, Holly, Emma, Tori, Amelia, Matilda, Laura and Tia. Thank you to Jade for coaching us. Also a big thank you to Ms Squire and Ms Brownscombe for helping out throughout the day. Great Job Girls!
